What's the Role?
We're looking for a back-end focused software engineer with experience integrating AWS with internal and third-party systems. You'll work on the platform that keeps employee data accurate and consistent across more than a dozen HR, identity, payroll and business systems, collaborating with product designers and other developers to maintain, architect, and where applicable modernize high-throughput software at the core of our business.
Responsibilities
• Write clean, maintainable, and well tested code as part of a small Scrum team
• Build and operate reliable, idempotent integrations between systems of record
• Strong sense of ownership over the team's software domain
• Respond quickly to production issues and reacting with additional logging, alerting, and diagnostics
• Get up to speed quickly with an existing codebase and ask questions early
• Communicate with business stakeholders to understand requirements, confirm data expectations, and raise challenges early
• Aid in maintaining and improving best practices on your team, including detailed PR reviews, manual and automated testing, deployment, etc.
Qualifications
• BS, Computer Science/Information Systems or equivalent degree or experience
• 5+ years of professional programming with 2+ years of JavaScript experience focused on back-end web development with Node.js, GraphQL and REST APIs
• 3+ years experience with AWS Services or equivalent (Azure, Google) including Lambda, AppSync, EventBridge, Amplify, API Gateway, SQS, Cognito, DynamoDB, Secrets Manager, CloudFormation
• 3+ years experience working with relational/NoSQL databases (we use SQL Server, PostgreSQL and DynamoDB)
• 3+ years experience with cloud deployments and CI tools (we use AWS, GitHub Actions and the Serverless Framework, or equivalent Terraform experience)
• Expertise in writing well tested JavaScript (Jest)
• Demonstrated experience building ETL and API integrations (including OAuth authentication) and data sync automation, with attention to idempotency, reconciliation and partial-failure handling
• Comfort working in a monorepo of shared packages (we use Lerna and Yarn workspaces), and a habit of leaving code better documented than you found it
• Working knowledge of client-side web frameworks (e.g. React, Angular)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders
• Mortgage or Finance industry experience and knowledge a plus
