This role partners with technical and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into reliable, scalable, and secure solutions built on Postgres and Databricks.
The Senior Software Engineer leads work across the software development lifecycle - solution design, development, testing, implementation, troubleshooting, and ongoing optimization - and serves as a technical mentor to other engineers, setting standards for code quality, data modeling, and the responsible use of generative AI.
RequirementsPosition Essential Duties & Responsibilities The following are duties and responsibilities that the Senior Software Engineer shall provide:
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable Python services, APIs, and data pipelines across Databricks and Postgres.
- Translate business and technical requirements into effective software and AI solutions, including build-versus-buy recommendations.
- Write clean, maintainable, efficient, and well-documented Python code in accordance with established development standards.
- Build and maintain LLM-powered features, including prompt orchestration, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings and vector search, evaluation harnesses, and safety guardrails.
- Design, tune, and maintain Postgres schemas, queries, indexes, and migrations supporting both transactional and analytical workloads.
- Develop and optimize Databricks workloads, including PySpark jobs, Delta Lake tables, workflows, and Unity Catalog governance.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application defects, data quality issues, query performance problems, and model output regressions.
- Lead code reviews and set engineering standards, documentation, and development best practices for the team.
- Collaborate with Product, IT, Data & Analytics, AI & Engineering, and other business teams to develop and enhance technology solutions.
- Lead the design and implementation of software and data architecture, including LLM integration patterns and service boundaries.
- Develop and maintain automated tests and LLM evaluation suites to support application quality, reliability, and cost control.
- Support application deployments, releases, and upgrades, including CI/CD for Python services and Databricks assets, and ongoing production operations.
- Monitor and optimize application performance, scalability, security, reliability, and inference and compute spend.
- Identify opportunities to improve existing applications, data models, development processes, and system integrations.
- Maintain appropriate technical documentation for applications, pipelines, data models, prompts, and system configurations.
- Follow organizational standards related to information security, data privacy, access controls, responsible AI use, and software development.
- Mentor engineers and stay current on emerging technologies, development frameworks, and model capabilities.
- Perform other duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Educational / Skill Requirements The Senior Software Engineer requires the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
- 5+ years of professional software development or software engineering experience, including substantial hands-on Python development.
- Advanced proficiency in Python and its modern ecosystem, such as FastAPI or similar frameworks, asynchronous programming, packaging, and testing tools.
- Hands-on experience building LLM-based applications, including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings and vector stores, tool/function calling, and output evaluation.
- Strong SQL skills and production experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design, query tuning, indexing, and migrations.
- Experience with Databricks, including PySpark, Delta Lake, notebooks and jobs, and workspace or Unity Catalog administration.
- Experience developing and integrating APIs, web services, applications, and backend systems at production scale.
- Experience with source control, code review, and collaborative development workflows using Git.
- Understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, containerization, and modern deployment practices.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and with data modeling and ETL/ELT patterns preferred.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, mentor junior engineers, and manage multiple priorities independently.
