Position Overview

Rational 360 is seeking an experienced Senior Research Analyst, with a focus on source research, policy analysis, and the production of high-quality research materials. This role requires deep expertise in research methodologies, source evaluation, and policy research, as well as the ability to train other staff and establish companywide research standards.

The Senior Research Analyst will be responsible for overseeing research deliverables, managing media and data subscriptions, and ensuring consistency, accuracy, and strategic value across all research outputs.
Key Responsibilities

Research & Policy Analysis
  • Conduct in-depth research on public policy issues, legislation, regulatory matters, corporations, industries, and individuals
  • Apply appropriate research methodologies based on the subject matter and strategic objectives
  • Analyze and synthesize policy developments at the federal, state, and local levels
  • Evaluate source credibility, verify information, and assess potential reputational, political, or policy risk

Writing & Research Products
  • Produce and oversee high-quality research memos, issue briefs, backgrounders, policy analyses, and opposition or reputational research documents
  • Translate complex policy and research findings into clear, actionable insights for clients and internal teams
  • Manage multiple research projects simultaneously and prioritize under tight deadlines

Training & Research Standards
  • Train and mentor staff on source research techniques, research methodologies, and best practices
  • Develop and maintain standardized research templates, formats, and internal guidelines to ensure consistency and quality
  • Serve as a resource for staff questions related to sourcing, verification, and research strategy

Media & Research Tools Management
  • Act as the primary owner of media monitoring, research, and data subscriptions across the firm
  • Evaluate, manage, and optimize the use of research tools and platforms
  • Lead training sessions on research tools and ensure staff are using resources effectively and responsibly

Requirements

Qualifications
  • 5-8 years of professional research experience, preferably in public affairs, strategic communications, political consulting, policy research, journalism, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of source research methodologies and policy research
  • Demonstrated experience training staff
  • Proven ability to develop research templates, standards, and workflows
  • Familiarity with major media monitoring and research databases
  • Excellent writing, editing, and analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail and sound editorial judgment
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred
