Full Job Description
The New York Times is hiring a Senior Producer to work on our weekly tech show, Hard Fork. We're looking for someone with experience covering tech and working on chat shows, who can bring Hard Fork to life for our audio and video audiences, including social and full length videos.

You have a refined understanding of podcast and video journalistic production (research, prep, scripting, recording, script editing, post-production and publishing). We're looking for someone with a deep understanding of podcast video and social trends, who can take an innovative and adaptive approach to video formats, techniques and YouTube strategy.

This is a hybrid position based in New York and includes regular attendance in the office each week per your departmental guidance.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with Shows and Technology desk leadership to develop and execute on the ambitions of a new show
  • Work with hosts and guests in studio, booking and pre-interviewing guests and prepping hosts
  • Write interview questions, research, fact-check and collaborate on scripting
  • Produce full interviews in audio and video from start to finish
  • Make recommendations about length, format and tone before and during production
  • Cut episodes on a tight deadline, with technical proficiency and with minimal oversight
  • Consistently pull tape to shape a coherent and compelling conversation, using music, footage, b-roll, graphics and archive materials as needed
  • Receive and incorporate edits
  • Collaborate with the Audience team on show publishing strategies and social clips, including producing original social videos and brainstorming social copy.
  • Pitch and develop different forms of short-form vertical video storytelling that expand the reach of the show
  • Work with engineer to finalize technical aspects of the show
  • Must be able to handle the pressure of newsroom deadlines and juggle multiple projects at any given time
  • Must be open to experimenting with new ideas
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

Basic Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of journalism experience in audio or video.
  • Strong editorial judgment with a passion for podcast video.
  • Confidence and command to direct and produce the show's hosts
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues and reporters to synthesize news gathering and investigations into a tight, informative and engaging video.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage schedules and deadlines
  • The ability to edit quickly and accurately with Adobe Premiere or ProTools

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Canon video camera systems and the ability to shoot video in the field and in-studio.
  • General knowledge of legal, ethical, copyright and usage issues for third-party and acquired visuals.
  • Experience working in video podcasts
  • Strong interest in tech coverage
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across audio and video, keeping all stakeholders (hosts, producers, engineers) informed, even under tight deadlines.
  • The ability to make quick decisions under intense deadlines in a high-pressure newsroom setting
  • Willingness and flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

The annual base pay range for this role is between $124,979 and $152,000.

For roles in the U.S., dependent on your role, you may be eligible for variable pay, such as an annual bonus and restricted stock.
