Senior Medical Scientist, Global Medical Affairs

What you will do

Let's do this. Let's change the world. In this role, you will contribute to late-stage development, medical strategy, and launch readiness within Global Medical Affairs, Rare Disease. You will bring scientific expertise, strategic thinking, and strong external engagement capabilities to advance evidence generation, scientific exchange, and patient-focused medical initiatives in a dynamic global environment.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Global Medical Affairs Lead (GMAL) and internal cross-functional partners to support the development and execution of global medical strategy.
  • Translate emerging scientific, clinical, and external stakeholder insights into actionable medical strategies and priorities that address important unmet medical needs and inform the global medical plan.
  • Lead or support the planning and execution of medical advisory boards, scientific congress activities, symposia, and other scientific engagement initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain strong scientific relationships with key opinion leaders, healthcare professionals, patient advocacy organizations, professional societies, and other relevant external stakeholders.
  • Lead or support global evidence-generation activities, including real-world evidence and other medical-led evidence-generation initiatives, to address evidence gaps
  • Contribute to global product lifecycle management, including launch readiness and post-launch medical initiatives.
  • Provide strategic medical input to clinical development programs, including interpretation of emerging data and identification of evidence gaps.
  • Contribute to the high-quality dissemination of clinical and scientific data through peer-reviewed publications, congress presentations, and other medical communication channels.
  • Provide medical input to support value dossiers and health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) activities.
  • Collaborate with commercial teams to provide scientific input into promotional materials, marketing campaigns, and training programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory and ethical standards.
  • Ensure all medical affairs activities adhere to relevant laws, industry regulations, and internal company policies.
  • Contribute to cross-functional initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes and shaping the healthcare ecosystem through evidence generation, scientific exchange, medical education, and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • Champion a culture of ethical conduct, scientific rigor, and integrity within the organization.
  • Serve as the global medical affairs representative on cross-functional teams, providing strategic insights and support to the GMAL.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of medical affairs activities through global tracking systems.
  • Foster Amgen's reputation as a science-driven, innovative, and patient-centered organization.
  • Willingness to travel (approximately 30% of travel may be required).

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Medical Affairs experience

OR

Master's degree and 4 years of Medical Affairs experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 6 years of Medical Affairs experience

OR

Associate's degree and 10 years of Medical Affairs experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Medical Affairs experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PharmD, PhD, MD, or DO
  • Experience in Medical Affairs within rare disease, immunology, rheumatology, or autoimmune disease.
  • Experience with advisory boards, congresses, external expert engagement, evidence generation, and scientific communications.
  • Strategic launch experience and familiarity with product lifecycle management
  • Demonstrated strength in project management, scientific communication, and the ability to thrive in dynamic and evolving environments
  • Ability to foster strong cross functional partnerships with Commercial, Clinical Development and other relevant partners
  • Ability to work effectively and influence within a global matrixed organization.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
