Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Mechanical Design Engineer III solves complex structural and spatial integration challenges for Satellite Communication (SATCOM) components across diverse aircraft platforms. This role resolves real-time onsite production defects and engineering drawing discrepancies while designing robust installation provisions for outside aircraft equipment and cabin wireless hardware. By translating customer specifications into manufacturing-ready bill of materials and repair dispositions, the position ensures seamless manufacturing execution and strict regulatory compliance.

What Success Looks Like (Objectives):
  • Execute individual mechanical design and assembly projects on time and under budget while ensuring full technical compliance with customer specifications
  • Generate detailed 3D conceptual designs, installation provisions, and bills of materials for fuselage-mounted antennas, cabin SATCOM equipment, and wire harnesses
  • Resolve critical onsite production issues by updating engineering drawings, authoring disposition reports, and developing custom repair schematics
  • Support engineering department OKRs by maintaining continuous collaboration with production staff, external contractors, and project stakeholders
  • Utilize AI-driven CAD optimization software to automate structural generative design and streamline bill of materials workflows

Skills, Experience and Requirements

  • Advanced technical proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, SolidWorks, EPDM, and engineering software applications for complex structural design
  • Comprehensive expertise in aircraft design standards, FAA regulatory compliance, and structural installation principles
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to evaluate customer specifications, generate repair dispositions, and resolve onsite production challenges
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication capabilities to liaise effectively with production teams, area staff, and external partners
  • Practical AI Application skills to analyze generative design options and accelerate engineering document generation


Additional Qualifications:
  • Experience with FAA Supplemental Type Certification (STC) modifications and direct collaboration with Designated Engineering Representatives (DERs)
  • Direct background in satellite communications (SATCOM) integration and aircraft structural repairs
  • Dual proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD software environments


Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 8+ years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer in aviation, preferably with direct experience in aviation SATCOM systems
  • Must have at least 8 years of experience with:
    • Mechanical design, 3D CAD modeling, and structural assembly for aviation applications
    • Onsite production troubleshooting, engineering drawings modification, and repair dispositions
    • Specialized component fabrication design using composites, sheet metal, welding, and machined parts

Salary Ranges

Compensation: $100,500.00/Year - $134,000.00/Year
