The Customer Information Systems - Client Systems Domain is seeking a Senior Manager, Engineering Operations to lead reliability engineering, production operations, and development for core customer data platforms including mainframe and distributed systems.

This role is accountable for leadership on "keep the lights on" operations, platform stability, and engineering improvements while leading SRE practices and mainframe development team. The role also supports modernization outcomes by embedding observability, automation, and engineering discipline into mainframe and distributed environments.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Lead and manage cross-functional teams including SREs, application support, and development teams supporting mainframe and distributed CIS platforms
  • Own end-to-end production stability, availability, and reliability of mission-critical customer data applications and ecosystem
  • Drive SRE practices including reliability engineering, incident management, problem management, and continuous improvement
  • Establish and enforce operational excellence standards including SLAs, SLOs, error budgets, and service health metrics
  • Lead major incident management, stakeholder communication, and post-incident reviews ensuring root cause remediation
  • Implement and mature observability practices including monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting across platforms
  • Drive automation across deployments, recovery, failover, and operational workflows using scripting and infrastructure-as-code approaches
  • Oversee release management and ensure production readiness, post-release validation, and stabilization
  • Lead preventive maintenance strategies and platform reliability improvements to reduce incidents and improve recovery time
  • Own and improve development and reliability of mainframe platforms including IMS, JCL-based batch processes, and legacy mainframe systems
  • Support integration between mainframe and distributed systems, ensuring stability and performance across environments
  • Partner with other development teams such as API, ETL etc. to embed reliability, scalability, and operational considerations into design and build activities
  • Drive continuous improvement in production processes, tooling, and platform standardization
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory, compliance, and operational risk controls
  • Manage on-call rotations and ensure 24/7 support readiness for critical systems
  • Oversee resource planning, capacity management, and budget for operations and engineering support
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, ownership, and operational discipline


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, production support, or engineering operations roles in banking environment
  • Proven experience leading SRE, production support, or engineering operations teams in large-scale environments
  • Strong experience managing mission-critical platforms supporting high-volume customer systems
  • Deep experience with mainframe technologies including IMS, JCL, and legacy processing environments
  • Strong understanding of incident management, problem management, and service reliability frameworks
  • Hands-on experience with observability tools (e.g., Dynatrace, Splunk, Grafana) and log analysis
  • Experience with automation, scripting (Unix/Linux), and operational tooling
  • Experience supporting Java-based and distributed applications integrated with mainframe systems
  • Strong understanding of system performance, failure modes, and recovery strategies
  • Experience implementing SRE principles, SLOs, and reliability metrics
  • Strong knowledge of release management, change management, and production governance processes
  • Experience working in Agile and DevOps environments with CI/CD practices
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills


Nice-to-have skills:
  • Experience with customer data platforms such as MDM
  • Exposure to messaging and event-driven systems (Kafka, MQ)
  • Experience in mainframe modernization or hybrid architecture initiatives
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and hybrid environments
  • Experience in financial services or regulated environments
