Who Are You:

  • 5-7+ years of experience building distributed systems in high-scale environments. We primarily utilize Ruby/Rails
  • 4+ years of engineering management experience, with a track record of hiring, mentoring, and growing senior talent
  • Strong advocate for quality, reliability, and operational excellence (e.g., observability, incident response)
  • Experience managing SaaS or payment-related platforms is highly desirable
  • Ability to think iteratively, breaking complex billing problems into deployable pieces

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead, hire, and mentor a high-caliber team of software engineers
  • Drive the Billing Platform roadmap, balancing feature delivery with technical debt remediation
  • Foster a culture of high trust, strong ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with product management and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver scalable billing, pricing, and integration solutions
  • Establish clear team objectives that align with BigCommerce’s strategic business goals

Nice to have:

  • Experience with billing/payment platforms (e.g., Zuora) or complex financial systems.
  • Familiarity with GCP, RabbitMQ, and caching/data strategies.
  • Experience leveraging AI/ML tools to improve engineering efficiency or business outcomes.
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as relevant experience, skills, qualifications and geographic location. We also consider internal equity to help ensure fair and consistent pay practices across our teams.
