About the role

Reporting to the Senior Director of Environmental, the Senior Environmental Engineer/Specialist serves as a technical and regulatory compliance resource for Reworld operations (including thermomechanical treatment facilities, material processing facilities and other Reworld owned/operated assets).

The successful candidate will provide technical compliance oversight and support, regulatory analysis, compliance auditing and environmental permitting while working collaboratively with facility personnel, environmental staff, and Corporate teams.

Location: Florham Park, NJ

Schedule: 3 days in office 2 days from home

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage emissions and environmental performance databases that are used to support permitting, data analysis, reporting and benchmarking.


  • Lead environmental audit teams consisting of Corporate and Regional personnel, including coordination, completion of field audits, communication of findings/recommendations and tracking corrective actions to closure.


  • Support the environmental permitting team to obtain community support and regulatory agency approval of strategic growth initiatives.


  • Serve as a resource to facility environmental specialists for compliance and regulatory analysis.


  • Track and report key environmental compliance risks and liabilities.


  • Work with operations and engineering teams to development and implement environmental compliance training.


  • Develop tools, procedures, and standard work for specific compliance programs, e.g., auditing, permitting and compliance data aggregation and analysis.


Position Requirements

Education & Experience

  • BS in Engineering, relevant science (e.g. biology, chemistry, environmental science) or advanced degree related to environmental policy/compliance.


  • 5-8 years of progressive professional experience.


  • Familiarity with combustion and air pollution control technology is preferred but not required.


Technical Skills

  • Strong and independent drive to achieve business objectives.


  • Experience with, or working knowledge of, one or more environmental topics (e.g., air emissions calculations, new source review (NSR), permitting, air pollution control, stormwater, solid and hazardous waste management).


  • Ability to work independently and as an integral team member.


  • Advanced skill set in utilizing data analysis tools.


  • Strong organizational and time management skills to facilitate working on multiple projects simultaneously.


  • Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and applications.


  • Ability to train and mentor junior environmental staff.


Professional Skills

  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, especially regarding technical documentation.


  • Ability to interact effectively with facility personnel, Corporate leadership, and regulatory agency representatives.


  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence outcomes across multiple facilities without direct line authority.

Pay Transparency

The range below reflects Reworld's reasonable estimate of base pay for this role based on primary posting location. It is expected that most qualified candidates in this location will fall within the posting range. The final salary offered for this role will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to: experience, education, geographic location, skills and competencies, travel requirements and/or union contracts (if applicable). Pay ranges are reviewed from time to time and may be modified in the future.

The pay range for the primary location of this position is: $109,500.00 - $145,700.00 USD per annum
