The Team

The Senior Director, FX Engineering will lead the strategy, delivery, modernization, and operational excellence of the Bank's Foreign Exchange technology ecosystem. This role is accountable for the successful execution of business, regulatory, risk, and infrastructure initiatives across Murex and internally developed FX trading, pricing, risk management, workflow, settlement, and reporting platforms.

The Role

This role is accountable for the engineering delivery and operational excellence of global FX trading, pricing, risk, market connectivity, workflow, settlement, and reporting platforms across Murex and internally developed systems to ensure the FX ecosystem effectively supports business growth, client needs, regulatory requirements, and operational excellence

The role leads a global organization of engineering leaders, architects, and software engineers supporting Front Office, Market Risk, Operations, Finance, and Control Functions. This is a highly visible leadership role requiring deep FX expertise, exceptional engineering leadership, and a proven ability to drive innovation, strengthen engineering practices, optimize technology investments, and deliver scalable, resilient, and secure solutions that advance the Global Banking and Markets business.

  • Define and execute a multi-year FX Engineering strategy and target-state architecture aligned to Global Markets objectives.
  • Lead the engineering modernization agenda across Murex and proprietary platforms, driving cloud adoption, platform engineering, automation, AI enablement, and operational resiliency.
  • Provide executive leadership for architecture, software engineering, platform engineering, SRE, and production engineering functions supporting FX.
  • Accountable for the availability, performance, scalability, security, and resilience of mission-critical FX trading platforms.
  • Drive engineering excellence through Agile, DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and software craftsmanship.
  • Partner with Trading, Sales, Quants, Risk and Operations to deliver differentiated trading capabilities and business growth.
  • Lead strategic engineering investment planning, workforce strategy, vendor management, and financial accountability.
  • Establish KPI-driven engineering governance, reliability metrics, and transparent executive reporting.
  • Serve as the senior technology authority for FX architecture, trading platforms, market connectivity, risk systems, and operational workflows.
  • Maintain strong cybersecurity, audit, regulatory, and operational risk controls.
  • Build, mentor, and develop high-performing global engineering leadership teams.
  • Represent FX Engineering in executive committees, architecture forums, regulatory reviews, and transformation governance bodies.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Extensive experience with Murex and FX front-to-back platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of distributed systems, low-latency architecture, cloud, and platform engineering.
  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale engineering transformations.
  • Strong program management, stakeholder management, and executive communication skills.
  • Experience with modern software engineering, cloud, architecture, and DevSecOps practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in an agile, delivery-focused model, managing multiple priorities and adapting quickly to changing needs
  • Strong business and financial acumen, with the ability to connect strategy to execution and tangible results
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience influencing senior and executive leadership
  • Proven leadership experience building and managing high-performing teams
  • Experience in continuous improvement, operational excellence, or transformation initiatives is considered an asset
  • Excellent knowledge with MS Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience building high-performing engineering organizations and leadership teams.
