Job DescriptionWhat is the opportunity? Lead the Chief Control Office as a 2nd line of defense assurance team reporting to the CFO Group. You'll elevate RBC's financial reporting control environment and strengthen operational risk stewardship across the CFO Group. In this role, you'll drive strategic implementation of operational risk and regulatory compliance programs, partnering with 1st line teams across Enterprise Controllership, Tax, platforms, and COO. You'll combine subject matter expertise with people leadership, directing a team of specialists to embed systematic, disciplined risk management practices that enhance the effectiveness of controls and governance across CFO Group operations.
What will you do? - Lead CFO Group through Operational Risk program transformation as launched by GRM, including development of implementation frameworks, project plans, guidance, training delivery, and design of systems and tools as required.
- Provide strategic advice on control and risk trends through ongoing reviews; identify improvements and solutions to key control issues impacting CFO Group risks and processes.
- Guide CFO Group teams on risk and control identification, digital risk register and control register documentation, enterprise issue management, and annual RCSA processes; ensure adherence to GRM policies and frameworks.
- Design and oversee an enhanced regulatory compliance monitoring and reporting program for senior executives; manage quality assurance of documentation and testing standards aligned to RBC expectations.
- Conduct regulatory horizon scanning for CFO risk themes; support change management activities and quality assurance reviews in partnership with compliance teams.
- Lead, motivate, and inspire a diverse team of subject matter experts; communicate Chief Control Office vision and direction while clarifying priorities to drive efficiency and engagement.
- Provide candid feedback, coaching, and development through regular check-ins; drive best-in-RBC people management practices grounded in our values and Code of Conduct.
- Continuous improvement and identification of additional opportunities for efficiencies and excellence in controls and governance
What do you need to succeed?Must-have- CPA designation and graduate degree in business or related discipline
- At least 10 years financial services experience with strong knowledge of Operational Risk Management programs and regulatory requirements
- Deep experience in risk management, internal controls, banking processes, and industry best practices
- Proven track record as a valued advisor with ability to provide constructive challenge and communicate with senior stakeholders; strong relationship management skills
- Demonstrated leadership and team-building capability; strategic business acumen; superior prioritization and time management skills
- Proven drive for transformation and impact; experience leading teams of subject matter experts
- Strategic thinker with collaborative mindset and thought leadership capability
- Creative problem-solver experienced with complex, nebulous issues; organizational awareness and influence at senior levels
Nice-to-have- Strong technical knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley requirements
- Experience identifying and implementing process improvements and automation opportunities, including emerging technologies such as AI
- Familiarity with RBC systems, processes, and organizational structures
- Knowledge of RBC's control frameworks and risk management governance model
