Full Job Description
SMS Equipment is seeking a strategic and technically accomplished Senior Data & AI Architect to lead the design and implementation of the organization's enterprise Data & AI architecture. In this role, you will enable scalable analytics, AI-driven solutions, and enterprise-wide adoption of generative AI capabilities while supporting business transformation through data, artificial intelligence, and advanced analytics initiatives.

Working closely with the Director, Artificial & Business Intelligence, enterprise architecture teams, business stakeholders, OEM partners, and customers, you will ensure Data & AI platforms align with business strategy, enterprise technology standards, security frameworks, and responsible AI governance practices.

Work Location: Acheson, AB
Work Arrangement: Hybrid or Fixed On-Site
Schedule: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design and evolution of enterprise Data & AI architecture supporting business intelligence, analytics, machine learning, generative AI, optimization, and simulation solutions.
  • Develop architecture standards, integration patterns, and technology roadmaps aligned with enterprise architecture principles, business objectives, and technology standards.
  • Define architectural approaches for Microsoft Copilot, knowledge assistants, vector databases, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), and emerging agentic AI systems.
  • Design scalable Data & AI platforms supporting data ingestion, quality management, feature engineering, model development, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement through DataOps, MLOps, and LLMOps.
  • Support Data Governance, Responsible AI, compliance, model lifecycle management, and evaluation of emerging technologies across AI, analytics, and data ecosystems.
  • Partner with business leaders to identify Data, AI, and Business Intelligence opportunities while mentoring Data Scientists, BI Analysts, and AI Engineers and fostering innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.


What You Bring

You are an experienced technology leader with deep expertise in enterprise Data & AI architecture, cloud platforms, analytics ecosystems, and business transformation. You possess strong strategic thinking, technical leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate business needs into scalable and governed solutions.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science, Analytics, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in Data Architecture, AI Architecture, Business Intelligence, Analytics, or Enterprise Technology Leadership.
  • Strong expertise in modern data architectures, cloud-native platforms, and tools such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure AI, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, Power BI, and Copilot Studio.
  • Experience designing scalable AI, machine learning, and generative AI solutions within governed enterprise environments.
  • Knowledge of Responsible AI, data governance, privacy, compliance, and enterprise architecture principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to build technology roadmaps, align architecture strategies with business objectives, and mentor technical teams.


Nice to Haves

  • Enterprise-wide AI transformation experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Copilot, RAG, knowledge assistants, or agentic AI
  • Industry experience in mining, construction, heavy equipment, energy, forestry, or industrial operations
  • Relevant certifications in cloud, AI, data engineering, enterprise architecture, or analytics
