Senior Correspondent - Big Tech and Privacy Regulation

Department: Content Editorial & Research

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Washington

Reporting To: US editor

Compensation: $75,000 - $95,000 / year

Description

LBR/ALM is seeking an experienced Senior Correspondent to lead coverage of big tech, digital markets and privacy regulation from Washington, DC. This is a senior reporting role on one of the most consequential and fast-moving regulatory beats, with responsibility for shaping how our brands cover the legal and policy challenges facing the world's largest technology companies.

You will cover policy, enforcement, litigation and legislative developments involving major technology firms, with a particular focus on their interaction with the Department of Justice, Federal Trade Commission, Federal Communications Commission and Congress, and international regulators. Your reporting will help a sophisticated professional audience understand not just what is happening, but why it matters and what comes next.

You will contribute across Law.com, Global Investigations Review and Global Competition Review, delivering agenda-setting news, sharp analysis and in-depth features for lawyers, regulators, policymakers and corporate decision-makers around the world.

This role requires a journalist who can operate with authority on a complex beat, bring a strong existing network of sources, and consistently deliver exclusive, high-value reporting with minimal oversight.

Key Responsibilities

You will take ownership of coverage of big tech and privacy regulation in Washington, DC, setting the editorial agenda across our brands. This includes:

  • Leading coverage of regulatory, enforcement and legislative developments affecting major technology companies in the US and globally
  • Breaking exclusive stories through a well-developed network of sources across government, private practice, industry and advocacy groups
  • Delivering insightful analysis that explains the legal, commercial and political significance of developments, not just the technical detail
  • Writing across formats, including daily news, long-form features, data-driven pieces, surveys and live or event-based coverage
  • Collaborating closely with colleagues across Law.com, GIR and GCR to deliver joined-up, high-impact coverage of overlapping regulatory themes
  • Representing the brands externally at conferences, industry events and client meetings, building profile, trust and relationships in the market
  • Leading or contributing to major editorial projects, such as special reports and cross-brand initiatives
  • Editing and supporting other reporters where appropriate, helping to maintain strong story framing and high editorial standards
  • Delivering clean, accurate, publication-ready copy on deadline, operating with a high degree of autonomy and requiring minimal editing

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Who You Are

You are an established journalist with significant experience covering legal, regulatory or policy beats, ideally with exposure to technology, antitrust or privacy. You bring:

  • A strong existing contacts book in Washington, DC, with the ability to generate off-diary stories and original insight
  • A track record of breaking exclusive news and producing authoritative, agenda-setting analysis
  • Confidence in covering complex legal and regulatory issues with clarity, precision and speed
  • The ability to identify commercial, strategic and political implications, not just legal outcomes
  • Strong news judgement and the ability to manage multiple deadlines while balancing daily reporting with longer-term projects
  • Experience writing across different formats and platforms, and adapting tone for distinct but overlapping professional audiences
  • A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively across desks, brands and functions
  • A bachelor's degree is required; a background in journalism, law, public policy or financial reporting is advantageous
