The Opportunity
Are you ready to help shape the future of sustainable energy? Hitachi Energy is looking for a Senior Auxiliary Power Systems Engineer
to join our North America Grid Integration Business Unit and support the continued growth of our Grid and Power Quality Solutions and Services (GPQSS) team.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) technology, an innovative solution that helps utilities and power system operators increase grid capacity, improve system stability, and accelerate the energy transition. By enabling more efficient use of existing infrastructure, FACTS solutions help deliver reliable power while reducing environmental impact and optimizing investment costs.
In this role, you will contribute to the design and delivery of advanced auxiliary power systems that support critical energy infrastructure projects across North America. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, engage with suppliers and customers, and play a key role throughout the project lifecycle, from engineering design and equipment specification to installation, testing, and commissioning.
How You'll Make an Impact
Design MV/LV auxiliary distribution systems, including diesel generators, AC/DC panels, batteries, chargers, transfer switches, voltage stabilizers, SSVTs, circuit breakers, UPS, and related components.
Perform ETAP power system studies, including arc flash analysis, to support MCCB, cable, protective relay, and equipment sizing in accordance with IEEE and NFPA standards.
Develop DC auxiliary power systems, including battery banks, chargers, distribution panels, and protection schemes.
Apply engineering design principles and applicable technical standards to prepare SLDs, feeder load lists, material estimates, and LV/MV cable sizing.
Support project delivery through auxiliary power equipment specifications, supplier drawing reviews, FAT, cable routing/design, installation supervision, and commissioning support.
Coordinate with project teams to confirm required solution updates and support delivery needs.
Improve processes based on project experience and maintain North American engineering standards, templates, and best practices.
Promote safety, integrity, collaboration, continuous improvement, and compliance with internal and external regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
Your Background
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
5+ years applying NEC and ANSI/IEEE standards, with strong MV/LV auxiliary power system design knowledge.
Experience with power system studies, including protection, cable sizing, and equipment coordination.
ETAP proficiency strongly preferred; Aspen or SKM experience may also be considered.
Knowledge of FACTS technology or HV transmission substation solutions preferred.
Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
What We Offer
Comprehensive Health Coverage – Medical, dental, vision, and prescription plans.
Retirement Savings – 401(k) with company match and additional company contributions.
Paid Time Off – Flexible PTO and paid holidays.
Professional Growth – Tuition reimbursement and continuous learning opportunities.
Family Support – Parental leave, adoption assistance, and fertility benefits.
