SAP Reporting Lead

AMAT

Atlanta, Georgia, United States

Job ID: 528574

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced SAP Reporting Lead to own the reporting and analytics architecture across our SAP landscape, including SAP S/4HANA, SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), and Business Data Cloud (BDC) - specifically Datasphere and SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC). This role is responsible for determining the right-fit reporting approach for each business need: native SAP reporting (Fiori embedded analytics, CDS-based analytical reports, or ABAP reports) versus modeling and reporting through Datasphere and SAC, versus exposing curated SAP data through Datasphere to Snowflake for cross-system reporting via Power BI and/or Tableau. Our strategy is to keep SAP data within the SAP ecosystem wherever possible so the business has near real-time data without heavy ETL, and to expose data outside SAP only when a report genuinely needs to combine SAP with non-SAP sources. The ideal candidate is a hands-on SAP reporting expert who can evaluate requirements and architect the most efficient, maintainable solution rather than defaulting to any single tool.

Major Duties/Responsibilities

Reporting Strategy & Architecture
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on SAP reporting options and own the decision framework for choosing between Fiori/embedded analytics, ABAP/CDS-based reports, SAC-on-Datasphere, and Snowflake exposure for a given requirement
  • Evaluate incoming reporting requests for data volume, complexity, latency needs, and audience, and recommend the most efficient architecture rather than defaulting to a single tool
  • Champion the strategy of keeping SAP data within the SAP ecosystem where possible to enable near real-time reporting and avoid unnecessary ETL and data duplication
  • Define and document standards for when data should be exposed outside SAP (e.g., via Datasphere to Snowflake) versus kept and reported natively within SAP

BTP / BDC / Datasphere / SAC Development
  • Design and build Datasphere data models and views that expose SAP data (S/4HANA, SuccessFactors, and other landscape sources) for consumption in SAC and, where appropriate, downstream systems
  • Build and maintain SAC stories, dashboards, and planning models for both embedded and standalone analytics use cases
  • Define reusable, performant, analytics-ready CDS views (analytic and consumption views) that support both native SAP reporting and Datasphere consumption
  • Own the technical relationship between Datasphere and SAC, ensuring models are optimized for reporting performance and maintainability

Native SAP Reporting (Fiori & ABAP)
  • Design and build Fiori-based reporting solutions, including analytical list pages, overview pages, and embedded analytics, where they are a better fit than moving data to BDC
  • Develop or guide the development of ABAP-based reports (including CDS-based and classic ALV reports) for scenarios where native, high-performance, or transaction-adjacent reporting is required
  • Balance near-real-time native reporting needs against the benefits of centralized, cross-source analytics in SAC/Datasphere when recommending an approach

Cross-System & Data Warehouse Coordination
  • Partner with the enterprise data/BI team to expose curated, well-modeled SAP data via Datasphere to Snowflake for reports that must combine SAP and non-SAP data
  • Define clear boundaries of ownership with the Snowflake/BI team: this role owns the SAP-side data exposure and modeling, while the BI team owns downstream ETL and dashboard delivery in Power BI and/or Tableau
  • Ensure exposed data sets are accurate, well-documented, and kept in sync with source SAP systems

Governance, Security & Stakeholder Management
  • Establish an intake and evaluation process for new reporting requests, including recommended approach and estimated effort
  • Partner with the Security Manager to ensure reporting objects, Datasphere spaces, and SAC content follow appropriate data access and authorization standards
  • Establish and govern process around Personally Identifiable Information (PII) data
  • Partner with the Basis Manager on performance monitoring and sizing considerations for reporting workloads (e.g., CDS view performance, Datasphere/HANA resource usage)
  • Act as the primary point of contact for business stakeholders on SAP reporting capabilities, translating business reporting needs into technical solutions
  • Document reporting architecture decisions, data lineage, and standards for maintainability and knowledge transfer

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required
  • 7+ years of SAP reporting/analytics experience, spanning both classic SAP reporting (ABAP, CDS views, Fiori) and modern SAP cloud analytics (BTP, Datasphere, SAC)
  • Hands-on experience building CDS views (analytic and consumption views) and exposing them via OData for reporting
  • Hands-on experience with SAP Analytics Cloud, including story building, live and import connections, and (ideally) planning models
  • Hands-on experience with SAP Datasphere, including data modeling, spaces, and connections to both SAP and non-SAP sources
  • Experience or working knowledge of exposing SAP data to external data warehouses/platforms such as Snowflake for downstream consumption
  • Working knowledge of Fiori embedded analytics (analytical list pages, overview pages) and ABAP reporting (including ALV)
  • General understanding of data warehousing and BI concepts sufficient to collaborate effectively with a downstream BI/ETL/Power BI/Tableau team, though this role does not build ETL pipelines or Power BI/Tableau dashboards directly
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate ambiguous business reporting requests into a clear technical approach
  • Customer-service mindset with experience managing stakeholder expectations and building relationships across business and IT
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to prioritize across concurrent reporting requests
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and adapt in an ever-changing environment with shifting requirements and priorities

Qualifications
  • Work Experience: 7+ years of experience in SAP reporting, analytics, or BI-adjacent development roles
  • Education: Bachelor's/University degree or equivalent experience
  • Additional Education Preferred: SAP Analytics Cloud and/or Datasphere training or certification
  • Other Training/Certifications: SAP BW/4HANA, SAC, or Datasphere certification a plus

Work Requirements
  • Must have expert proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Willingness to work independently and collaboratively as part of a broader development and reporting community
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required
  • The position may require work outside of normal business hours
