Develops, implements, and tests: (1) novel signal processing techniques for cognitive detection, tracking, and estimation of uncooperative and cooperative satellites (with a focus on low Earth orbit (LEO) and including medium Earth orbit (MEO) and geostationary) and (2) software-defined radio (SDR) design to extract navigation observables (including pseudorange, Doppler, carrier phase, direction-of-arrival) from unknown, partially known, and known nonterrestrial and terrestrial sources;

Leads the development of multi-platform integrated positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) systems comprising cognitive SDRs, inertial measurement units, and other sensors, suitable for stationary base-stations, ground vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), piloted aircraft, and maritime vessels; Supervises/mentors graduate and undergraduate students pursuing related research in the ASPIN Laboratory, leading to successful completion of the students’ projects and publication of jointly co-authored papers;

Serves as Principal Investigator (PI) or co-Principal Investigator (co-PI) on externally funded research projects; initiates, manages, and completes sponsored research efforts; acts as a liaison with funding agencies, industry partners, and academic institutions; Prepares competitive research proposals to secure new funding and sustain ongoing research initiatives; identifies emerging research opportunities and develops new systems and methodologies to expand technical capabilities;

Oversees the analysis and interpretation of research data; prepares comprehensive technical reports and scholarly publications; presents research findings at national and international conferences, symposia, and workshops.

Qualifications

Required: Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, with a strong emphasis on navigation systems and processes. Extensive experience in the design, modeling, and implementation of navigation technology.

Demonstrated ability as a productive and innovative researcher, evidenced by a strong record of peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and leadership of and contributions to the development of navigation technologies.

Proven track record of solving complex engineering problems through the creation of new navigation technologies and processes with significant technical impact.

Desired: Deep understanding of LEO satellite operations; communications and navigation signal processing; experience in working with government agencies, experience as PI or co-PI on research programs.
