The department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The Ohio State University invites applications for the position of Associate Vice President, National Security and Space Research and Innovation with an appointment as Professional Practice Professor. The department seeks a leader who can join our faculty and serve as the spear-head and focal point for national security and space innovation and research grounded in Ohio State's shared values. This position will start as early as January 1, 2027.

Position Overview

The Ohio State University is embarking on an ambitious plan to significantly bolster our National Security and Space innovation and research portfolio. This effort is ongoing at the university level, with a multitude of colleges playing an active role in support and engagement. We seek a proven, dynamic, innovative, and strong leader to join our faculty and serve as the spear-head and focal point for this activity. The position will drive National Security and Space related activities across campus that create transformational outcomes in the National Interest, as well as fortify the strength, reputation, and contributions of Ohio State. The successful candidate will have demonstrated success as a prominent and highly regarded individual within the National Security/Space research community, have assembled an outstanding intellectual record, and demonstrated continued success in translational research to fortify US priorities. The successful applicant will also have built an extensive and impactful publication record, with notable recognition across relevant professional societies and boards including fellow of professional societies, member of national level academies , and similar.

Performance Objectives

This work will include development, stewardship and execution of curiosity- and purpose-driven research across a range of Technology readiness levels, as well as fortify Ohio State's workforce development and land-grant mission, across a dynamic range of topic areas including healthcare, engineering, technology, and policy. The incumbent will work collaboratively with Ohio State Government affairs to help serve state and Federal stakeholders, as well as with external partners in industry, serving as a critical connector for faculty and research personnel on campus.

Reporting Structure: The Associate Vice President reports to the Vice President for Research.

Required:

  • Earned doctorate in Electrical and Computer Engineering or a related field.


  • Credentials appropriate for appointment at the rank of professional practice professor.


  • Demonstrated excellence in National Security/Space research with strong external funding and scholarly publications.

  • Proven continued success in translational research to fortify US priorities.
