Full Job Description
We’re looking for a proactive Research Project Manager to support Eyeline Labs, our innovation flywheel, by turning emerging research into practical, production-ready workflows. Your role is to maintain momentum across testing, data acquisition, and discovery for the Labs team, who are responsible for capturing high-quality datasets and training models that unlock new creative capabilities. You’ll bring structure to fast-moving innovation, leading alignment across Research, Production, and Technology across Eyeline and Netflix. You’ll build the framework that moves internal research, proofs of concept, and open-source work into reliable, documented, and scalable tools. Through short iteration cycles, you’ll keep experimentation focused and aligned with real production needs, guiding ideas from exploration to productization: defined by a cycle of "Explore, Iterate, Apply." You’ll support the discovery of new technologies, incubate experimental workflows, and apply these "battle-tested" solutions to solve complex, undefined problems for the scaled VFX teams. Success in this role comes from staying curious, steady in ambiguity, and clear in communication. You’ll balance creativity with execution, align stakeholders around priorities, and own initiatives end-to-end. Setbacks are expected, you see them as part of progress, not failure.   Success means staying optimistic. RESPONSIBILITIES • Lead research initiatives from opportunity through prototype to production-ready delivery, ensuring clarity, alignment, and momentum • Turn creative and technical goals into actionable plans that balance rapid iteration with disciplined execution. Lead alignment across researchers, engineers, and artists to define requirements, manage dependencies, and lock milestones. • Own the decision framework that moves work from research to productization, with smooth handoffs and shared context across Research, Production, and Technology across Eyeline and Netflix • Maintain tight alignment with production managers and stakeholders across delivery, documentation, and deployment • Surface risks and trade-offs early to support clear, evidence-based decisions • Ensure documentation, support models, and training materials are in place before workflows are rolled out to production teams. • Ensure reporting follows best practices, providing visibility into project status, key milestones, and risks. • Manage stakeholder communication, keeping all business units informed, aligned, and engaged throughout the project lifecycle. • Measure and report adoption, delivery progress, workflow performance, and operational impact to support planning and prioritization. • Define and maintain standards, best practices, and operating frameworks for technology project management. • Provide project management guidance to non-Project Management-led initiatives, offering best practices, frameworks, and tools to help teams structure and manage their projects effectively, even when a dedicated Project Manager is not assigned. REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, Technology, a related field, or equivalent experience. • Minimum 5 years in VFX, Animation, Games, or technology companies developing emerging solutions that support digital content creation • At least 3 years project managing cross-disciplinary or R&D-driven projects • Proven experience managing projects in research or rapid-prototyping environments—able to turn exploration into actionable plans with production impact • Strong understanding of project management methodologies (Agile, iterative, or hybrid); PMP or Scrum certification a plus but not required • Skilled at balancing creative ambition with practical delivery; able to keep big-picture thinkers grounded in real production needs • Comfortable operating in ambiguity, providing structure and clarity where direction is still forming • Experienced in bridging research, engineering, and creative teams and translating early-stage innovation into usable production tools • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to align diverse stakeholders and drive productive ideation • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, you are able to build trust, encourage experimentation, and maintain focus on measurable outcomes • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple short-cycle initiatives and track progress across concurrent prototypes • Actively follows and stays curious about emerging technologies across VFX, Animation, Virtual Production, Generative AI, and Machine Learning, understanding their potential impact on creative workflows $125,000 - $150,000 USD a year This salary range is specific to applicants applying to our position in Los Angeles, CA, USA. To determine your base salary, we consider your qualifications, skills, and experience. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary outside of this range and will also be dependent on your location.
