The OpportunityAs a
Project Manager, you will be accountable for the delivery of complex capital, facility, and research infrastructure projects that support Alberta Innovates' strategic objectives. Reporting to the Senior Manager, PMO, you will lead projects through the full lifecycle, from business case development and planning through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and occupancy.
Working within active research and operational environments, you will collaborate with technical staff, facility operators, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
You will be responsible for project governance, scope, budget, schedule, procurement, contract administration, risk management, and stakeholder engagement. The role requires strong leadership and decision-making skills to navigate competing priorities, resolve complex issues, and ensure compliance with organizational, regulatory, and funding requirements.

Key ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be responsible for duties that will include:
- Lead end-to-end delivery of research, infrastructure, and capital projects, ensuring alignment with scope, budget, schedule, and quality expectations.
- Develop and manage project plans, schedules, resources, and procurement strategies to support successful outcomes.
- Coordinate and oversee consultants, contractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships and communicate project progress, risks, and decisions clearly and proactively.
- Identify and manage project risks, issues, and changes, implementing mitigation strategies to minimize disruption to operations.
- Monitor project performance, including budget, schedule, and contractor performance, and take corrective action as needed.
- Ensure project quality through effective oversight, testing, commissioning, and closeout activities.
- Maintain compliance with applicable legislation, codes, standards, and organizational governance requirements.
- Prepare accurate project documentation, reporting, and governance materials to support decision-making and accountability.
- Facilitate cross-functional coordination to align project delivery with operational, research, and organizational priorities.
Qualifications and SkillsRequired- Minimum 5 years' experience managing capital, infrastructure renewal, facility, construction, or technical projects (owner-side experience considered an asset).
- Formal education, technical training, certification, or equivalent experience in mechanical, electrical, building systems, engineering, construction, architecture, or related disciplines. Formal training and/or demonstrated experience in project management, project coordination, or capital project delivery.
- Experience coordinating consultants, contractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams
- Strong knowledge of project delivery methodologies, construction processes, procurement, and contract administration.
- Experience supporting projects through planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, occupancy, and closeout phases. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven problem-solving, analytical thinking, and risk management capabilities.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in active operational environments with a focus on safety, collaboration, and results.
Preferred- Experience with project financial administration, including budgeting, forecasting, and change management.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or equivalent project management certification.
- Experience working within research, laboratory, industrial, healthcare, post-secondary, or other complex operational environments.
- Proficiency in project management tools, scheduling, and documentation systems.
