What You Will Do The Project Leader manages operational planning, schedule integration, and execution coordination activities supporting mission-critical work execution. This position serves as the coordination and integration lead between Work Control, Planning, Construction, Project Controls Engineering (PCE), Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and Project Leadership to ensure Integrated Work Documents (IWDs), schedules, and field execution activities remain aligned, current, and execution-ready. The Project Leader establishes coordination requirements, oversees schedule integration activities, facilitates issue resolution, and supports execution readiness through structured planning oversight, schedule management, and leadership reporting. The role is responsible for maintaining visibility into operational priorities, identifying schedule risks and planning gaps, and ensuring timely escalation of delays, resource constraints, and execution impacts.
Projects supported by this position involve coordinated operational activities requiring continuous integration between planning, scheduling, field execution, and leadership teams to ensure successful completion of mission objectives and execution milestones.
Job Duties - Safety and security are a primary responsibility for all Laboratory employees. Assures safety and security compliance, maintains required safety and security training, and makes safety and security an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
- Leads coordination and integration activities between Work Control, Planning, Construction, Project Controls Engineering (PCE), SMEs, and Project Leadership to maintain alignment between Integrated Work Documents (IWDs), schedules, and field execution activities.
- Applies project management and operational planning principles to maintain situational awareness of IWD schedules, planning progress, execution milestones, and operational priorities.
- Reviews and updates schedules throughout the week, identifying delays, conflicts, resource constraints, and last-minute changes requiring coordination, mitigation, or escalation.
- Prepares and distributes schedule materials, planning documentation, and status updates for Planner Update Meetings and other operational coordination meetings.
- Partners with PCE and operational leadership to reconcile schedule impacts, emerging delays, execution conflicts, and priority adjustments affecting mission-critical work activities.
- Facilitates Subject Matter Expert (SME) coordination and technical engagement to support IWD development, planning issue resolution, and execution readiness.
- Oversees planning issue resolution activities by identifying planning gaps, coordinating technical support, and ensuring timely communication of critical schedule or execution changes to stakeholders and leadership.
- Provides structured reporting and operational representation during daily and weekly meetings to ensure continuity, visibility, and leadership awareness of planning status, execution risks, and operational constraints.
- Monitors project and operational performance while managing schedule updates, planning actions, tracking systems, and execution readiness activities under established processes and priorities.
- Integrates operational planning and schedule coordination activities with Laboratory priorities and commitments, including safety, security, environmental compliance, quality assurance, and business operations. Identifies potential schedule risks, planning conflicts, resource constraints, and execution impacts while developing mitigation strategies and recommending corrective actions. Serves as a primary point of coordination and communication between planners, construction personnel, SMEs, PCE, and leadership to maintain operational alignment and execution readiness. Utilizes Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Primavera P6 scheduling tools to support reporting, schedule tracking, planning coordination, and operational integration activities.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements: - Knowledge of project management principles, operational planning, Integrated Work Documents (IWDs), and schedule coordination processes.

- Knowledge of schedule management practices, milestone tracking, and operational reporting processes.
- Familiarity with Project Controls Engineering (PCE) coordination and Primavera P6 schedule review.
- Ability to identify schedule conflicts, planning gaps, execution risks, and resource constraints.
- Ability to coordinate effectively across cross-functional teams including planners, SMEs, construction personnel, operations staff, and project leadership.
- Ability to successfully organize, prioritize, and monitor multiple operational activities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel.
- Ability to build trust, gain consensus, resolve conflicts, and maintain effective working relationships.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Education/Experience:
Position requires a bachelor's degree in business administration, project management, operations management, construction management, or a related field from an accredited institution and 2 years of directly related project coordination, planning, scheduling, or operational leadership experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Desired Qualifications: - Experience coordinating operational planning, schedule integration, and execution readiness activities in support of mission-critical work environments.
- Experience developing, maintaining, or improving document control processes, operational workflows, tracking systems, or reporting tools to enhance execution efficiency and schedule visibility.
- Familiarity with schedule management processes, milestone tracking, and schedule integration activities within operational or project execution environments.
- Demonstrated ability to identify schedule conflicts, planning gaps, execution risks, and resource constraints while supporting timely issue resolution and escalation.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage high-volume, time-sensitive documentation, schedule updates, and coordination activities in an execution-focused environment.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced operational environment with competing priorities, shifting schedules, and evolving mission requirements.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to coordinate across multiple organizations and communicate effectively with leadership, planners, SMEs, and field execution personnel.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative working relationships, maintain situational awareness, and support operational continuity across integrated project teams.
Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
