Job Title: Prognostics & Health Management (PHM) Engineer III - LiftSystem

Working Pattern: Fulltime

Working Location: Indianapolis, IN

Position Summary

Rolls-Royce is seeking a Prognostics & Health Management (PHM) Engineer to support the LiftSystem program. The role is part of the PHM team responsible for the definition and integration of new products, developing diagnostics and predictive algorithms, analyzing and modeling in-service attributes related to the product health, and managing PHM algorithm performance. Your responsibilities will include providing service data analysis to assist in event investigations and root cause analysis of reliability and safety issues. A core focus of this role is to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective product attributes are defined and maintained through life modeling of product reliability, deterioration mechanisms, and costs. To provide world-class technical support for in-service/delivered products and to influence maturity throughout the product life cycle to meet customer and business needs, ensuring Design Intent is met.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with cross functional teams and working to advise management, while overcoming potential obstacles.

What you will be doing:

  • Developing algorithms and techniques to detect and predict imminent system level failures such as performance and control, pneumatic, vibration, oil and fuel systems, and component lifing.
  • Working with LiftSystem Informatics to ensure Data availability/quality metrics are adequate for lifing calculations. Includes integrating data between ADVISe/Maximo and addressing data issues with partner OEM.
  • Performing system level analysis to understand the behavior of the LiftSystem in-service to provide support for engineering investigations including Red Top Investigations and Safety Alert Reports
  • Providing customer interface for in-service and system PHM related issues, including giving technical presentations and publishing reports documenting engineering analysis.
  • Supporting LiftSystem component, module and flight testing to assist in the maturation of PHM algorithms
  • Collaborating with other LiftSystem teams and the EHM engineering capability to use and share best practices, to develop good knowledge management practices (processes, tools and methods)


Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 2+ years of experience in PHM/EHM system design, aerospace engineering, data analysis, software development, or related fields, or
  • Master's Degree in Engineering and 1+ years experience in related fields, and
  • Must be U.S. Citizen or a U.S Permanent Resident to be considered for this opportunity


Preferred Requirements:

  • Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
  • Extensive experience with data analysis using JMP, MATLAB/Simulink, or Python and Git, and experience with SQL and database systems
  • Experience in system engineering processes, performance and control, vibration, oil system, or aircraft mission analysis, and experience with EHM/PHM methods or computational modelling
  • Experience presenting to internal and external audiences on critical topics, especially to US DoD customers
  • Demonstrated the ability to work autonomously across a broader ambiguous / complex area and independently leads projects to deliver solutions.
