This position will be filled at either the Production Control Specialist 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Q-6 is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to serve as a Production Control Specialist within the Detonation Science and Technology Group. This position provides critical support for inventory management, material accountability, material readiness, and production control functions for high-explosive, classified, controlled, and inert materials used in research, development, and testing operations.

The selected candidate will work collaboratively with operations, safety, security, quality, material management, and programmatic organizations to ensure materials and equipment are properly received, tracked, stored, staged, issued, returned, reconciled, and documented in accordance with Laboratory and Division requirements. The role supports high-consequence work environments that involve high explosives, hazardous materials, classified matter, controlled components, test assets, spare parts, consumables, and a broad range of inert inventory.

The Detonation Science and Technology Group enables critical national security missions through detonation science, testing operations, material control, and operational readiness. The Production Control Specialist directly contributes to these mission objectives by ensuring that materials, equipment, controlled items, and Measuring and Test Equipment (M&TE) are available, traceable, compliant, and ready to support ongoing R&D and test activities.

This position supports inventory and production control activities across Q-6 facilities, including high-explosive material areas, classified material control locations, and inert storage environments. Responsibilities may include supporting material readiness for test activities; maintaining accurate and auditable inventory records; managing M&TE tracking and calibration-status control; performing cycle counts and physical inventories; resolving inventory discrepancies; supporting material disposition; and helping maintain clean, organized, and compliant storage and staging areas.

Ideal applicants will have experience with the following duties:

• Provide material management, logistics, and operations support in a controlled work environment consistent with institutional requirements.
• Maintain accountability and positive control of high explosives, classified matter, controlled components, test assets, consumables, spare parts, inert inventories, and Measuring and Test Equipment (M&TE).
• Conduct material control activities including receipt, verification, labeling, storage, staging, issuance, return, transfer, reconciliation, and disposition in accordance with approved procedures.
• Perform cycle counts, physical inventories, and inventory reconciliations; maintain accurate shelf - life, lot, and serial - number tracking; ensure M&TE identification, calibration status, and control are compliant with institutional processes.
• Utilize approved production, inventory, database, spreadsheet, and resource - planning systems to maintain accurate, complete, and auditable records, including those associated with M&TE.
• Coordinate with operations, safety, security, quality, material management, craft, and programmatic organizations to ensure material and M&TE availability to support mission execution.
• Prepare, maintain, and retain required documentation, including inventory records, material forms, transaction logs, work - control documents, configuration management and quality records, and M&TE control documentation.
• Implement safe, secure, and compliant work practices in facilities that involve high explosives, hazardous materials, classified matter, controlled inventories, and calibrated or non - calibrated M&TE.
• Maintain storage, staging, and inventory areas in an orderly, hazard - free, and compliant condition, including appropriate segregation, housekeeping, material organization, and coordination of waste or excess materials.
• Exercise Stop Work authority when conditions arise that may challenge safety, security, material control, M&TE control, or compliance requirements.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Job Requirements for Production Control Specialist (PCS-1) ($60,500 - $93,600):

• Reliability, attention to detail, willingness to learn, and ability to follow approved procedures in a controlled work environment.
• Basic experience or interest in inventory control, material management, logistics, warehousing, procurement support, or operations support.
• Ability to assist with receiving, labeling, storing, staging, issuing, returning, reconciling, and dispositioning materials.
• Ability to learn accountability and positive-control practices for high explosives, classified matter, controlled components, inert inventory, consumables, spare parts, test assets, and M&TE.
• Ability to support inventory records, transaction logs, cycle counts, physical inventories, shelf-life tracking, lot/serial-number tracking, M&TE status checks, and discrepancy follow-up under direction.
• Basic computer skills and ability to communicate with operations, safety, security, quality, material management, craft, and programmatic personnel to support material readiness.
• Willingness to work in high-consequence environments and maintain storage, staging, and inventory areas in an orderly, hazard-free, and compliant condition while following Stop Work expectations.

Additional Job Requirements Production Control Specialist (PCS-2) ($72,800 - $115,400): In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires the following:

• Experience performing inventory control, production control, material management, logistics, procurement support, warehousing, or operations support activities with general direction.
• Experience supporting accountability of high explosives, classified matter, controlled components, inert inventory, consumables, spare parts, test assets, or M&TE in a controlled environment.
• Experience supporting material and equipment readiness for work scopes, test activities, facilities, storage areas, or programmatic customers.
• Experience performing cycle counts, physical inventories, inventory reconciliations, shelf-life tracking, lot/serial-number tracking, M&TE status checks, discrepancy follow-up, and auditable records.
• Experience using inventory, production control, procurement, database, spreadsheet, or resource-planning systems to track information, identify issues, and support resolution.
• Experience supporting material receipt, storage, staging, issue, return, transfer, reconciliation, procurement, replenishment, disposition, process improvements, and required documentation.
• Ability to prioritize assigned work, support multiple Q-6 facilities or material areas as needed, adapt to changing mission priorities, and elevate issues for resolution.

Education/Experience for Production Control Specialist 1: Position requires a minimum of 2 years' related experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience for Production Control Specialist 2: Position requires 5 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

• Active Q Clearance or ability to obtain and maintain a Q Clearance, which typically requires U.S. citizenship.
• Previous experience working in DOE/NNSA, Department of Defense, national laboratory, production agency, secure manufacturing, or other national security environments.
• Familiarity with classified matter handling expectations, security-area protocols, access controls, escorting requirements, or controlled-area work practices.
• Familiarity with high-explosive, hazardous-material, or high-consequence facility operations from a support, logistics, safety, security, or material-control perspective.
• Experience working in environments that require strict adherence to formal procedures, conduct of operations, integrated work management, quality assurance, or configuration-controlled processes.
• Experience communicating with multidisciplinary customers in a mission-support role, including operations, safety, security, quality, procurement, craft, facility, or programmatic personnel.
• Familiarity with institutional business systems, barcode tools, procurement tools, asset-management systems, or inventory-related databases used to support traceability and accountability.
• Experience supporting continuous improvement, workplace organization, lean practices, 5S, or other efforts that improve storage-area organization, process consistency, or operational efficiency.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
