SummaryThe PCB Designer is responsible for designing and optimizing printed circuit board (PCB) layouts for industrial power electronics applications, including battery chargers, inverters, and supporting accessories ranging from 150W to 100kW. This role supports power performance, reliability and manufacturability by ensuring designs meet electrical, thermal, safety and EMC requirements.
Responsibilities- Design and layout digital, analog, high-power, and mixed-signal PCBs using Altium Designer.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure successful integration of PCB designs into final products.
- Define and apply PCB design rules and spacing to ensure proper operation and to meet IPC, safety and EMC standards.
- Develop complete manufacturing documentation, including fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, Gerber files and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Create and maintain schematic symbols, component footprints and PCB parts library and database.
- Partner with PCB manufacturers in material selection and impedance requirements.
- Support contract manufacturers by resolving design-for manufacturing (DFM) issues.
- Conduct design reviews to ensure compliance with internal standards and industry requirements.
- Independently manage multiple PCB layout projects of varying complexity within defined timelines.
Required Qualifications- 3+ years of hands-on layout experience using Altium Designer or similar software.
- Experience with power electronics and high-voltage PCB design, including creepage and clearance considerations.
- Strong understanding of DFM and DFA principles.
- Working knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation techniques in PCB layout.
- Ability to properly size track widths and specify copper weights based on current and thermal requirements.
- Experience building and maintaining PCB symbol and footprint libraries.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications- Ability to interpret and work from analog and digital schematics.
- Experience with controlled impedance and differential pair routing.
- Experience minimizing parasitic capacitance and inductance in PCB layouts.
- Familiarity with fine-pitch components (e.g., BGAs, QFNs) and fan-out strategies.
- Experience in industrial, power electronics, or other high-reliability environments.
