Title and Summary
Principal Software Engineer
The Principal Engineer for the Offers Platform will serve as the technical leader responsible for architecting, designing, and guiding the development of robust, scalable solutions that power our offers ecosystem.
About the Role:
Key responsibilities include setting engineering standards, mentoring senior engineers, and overseeing the end-to-end lifecycle of platform enhancements.
The Principal Engineer will analyze complex business requirements, propose technical solutions, and lead critical projects from conception to deployment.
They will ensure best practices in software development, performance optimization, and security are upheld throughout the platform.

• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends
• Champion code quality, automation, and continuous integration
• Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
All About You:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
• Extensive background in software engineering, including platform architecture and technical leadership
• Strong hands-on experience building enterprise-scale applications using Java and related JVM technologies
• Proven expertise designing and implementing RESTful web services, APIs, and microservices-based architectures
• Experience with Spring ecosystem technologies such as Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, and Spring Cloud
• Strong database experience with PostgreSQL and relational data modeling; familiarity with NoSQL technologies is a plus
• Experience with modern front-end technologies such as React, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems using big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, or similar platforms
• Hands-on experience with cloud-native application development and deployment using AWS, PCF, Kubernetes, Docker, or comparable platforms
• Solid understanding of cloud platforms, distributed systems, API design, observability, resiliency, performance tuning, and secure software development practices
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code quality practices, and DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Git, Maven, Gradle, SonarQube, or similar technologies
• Strong understanding of security, scalability, reliability, and high-availability principles
• Excellent leadership, communication, mentoring, and problem-solving skills
In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
