The Principal Scientist, Polymers is responsible for leading high-impact materials science and polymer engineering initiatives across complex, cross-functional product development programs, from early concept through commercialization, while driving innovation, risk mitigation, and strategic technical decision-making for implantable medical devices.
This position reports to the Director, Engineering and is part of the Engineering organization, located in Cincinnati, Ohio and will be an on-site role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:- Provide scientific and technical leadership for high-risk, high-impact development programs involving bioabsorbable polymer-based implantable devices.
- Develop and execute polymer material science and degradation strategies aligned with product performance, manufacturability, regulatory requirements, and lifecycle needs.
- Serve as a technical lead for cross-functional teams across R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, and Clinical functions.
- Drive innovation through polymer chemistry, formulation, processing, and materials characterization.
- Mentor engineers and act as a trusted technical advisor to senior leadership.
The essential requirements of the job include:- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
- Deep expertise in bioabsorbable polymer materials, including degradation behavior, structure-property relationships, and application in implantable medical devices.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional engineering projects.
- Extensive experience in medical device development, including regulatory and product lifecycle considerations.
- Long-standing experience in polymer science, materials development, and manufacturing processes.
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements: if applicable for role
- Ability to travel up to 20%, including domestic and international travel, with typical assignments of 2-5 days.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:- Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant engineering or materials discipline.
- Project management certification and/or Six Sigma Green or Black Belt.

The annual salary range for this role is $170,000 - $180,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
