Principal Mechanical Engineer to join the team in Webster, Texas! The Principal Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design and development of passive RF antenna components.
The RoleThe primary responsibility of the Mechanical Engineer is to design and analyze component and assemblies, while ensuring structural integrity. This role collaborates with Sales, RF Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Production to design innovative, manufacturable solutions for our world-class customers.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe candidate will autonomously complete duties including, but not limited to, the following:
- Evaluate, understand, and provide technical input on customer requirements during pre-sale cycle.
- Provide accurate engineering estimates to support the technical proposal and pre-sale cycle.
- Design hardware based on customer specifications.
- Lead in-house programs as the Responsible Engineer.
- Closely collaborate with RF, Manufacturing, and Production functions to ensure design for manufacturability.
- Communicate requirements, review, and approve drawing creation; including tolerance stack-up analyses as required.
- Perform static and dynamic analyses on designed hardware; analyze results; and provide actionable recommendations/design adjustments based on results against customer specifications.
- Provide interdepartmental engineering leadership to:
- Achieve manufacturability on designed concepts
- Resolve hardware non-conformances
- Support environmental tests of product
- Create and maintain proper documentation associated with the design and analysis of the hardware.
- Concisely write deliverable technical reports per product contract requirements, including SDRLs
- Lead Customer Design Reviews and Internal Design Reviews
- Create, write, and edit process-based Work Instructions, Standard Procedures, and technical guides/trainings as needed.
- Provide training and mentorship to the Mechanical Engineering team.
- Adhere to government regulations, industry standards and internal guidelines to produce quality hardware in a quality setting.
- Support R&D and Sales mock-up and design activities
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience- At least 10 years of related design experience within the aerospace industry required.
- At least 3 years must be directly relevant to passive waveguide component design.
- Demonstrated experience, understanding, and proficiency in the following:
- GD&T
- Manufacturing drawing creation and requirements
- Materials consideration in designing for spaceflight applications
- Testing requirements and results interpretation for environmental conditions (vibration, thermal)
- Compliance to aerospace and spaceflight requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering.
- Master's Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering desired, but not required.
- Each post-graduate degree may substitute 2 years of experience requirement.
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks.
- EPDM experience is a plus
- Working knowledge of ERP systems is desired.
- NEi/NX Nastran, Femap, or similar analysis software experience
- Familiarity with composite structural design
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, including CNC machining and 3D Printing
- Experience assembling and delivering technical presentation to internal and external stakeholders.
- Project management skills, particularly with respect to delivering engineering content necessary to support the production process.
- Experience with environmental testing for spaceflight such as vibration and thermal.
- Experience providing technical mentorship
