* This role cannot offer any sort of visa sponsorship *About the team and the role:The eBay Infrastructure Engineering organization builds platforms that power experiences for millions of buyers and sellers around the world. As part of this organization, the Frameworks team owns the Java frameworks that handle all of eBay's site-facing REST, GraphQL, and batch traffic.
We are looking for a Platform Engineer to join our team in Austin and help evolve Raptor.io, eBay's Spring Boot-based Java Developer Platform.
In this role, you will build platforms that empower thousands of internal applications and developers across eBay. You will partner closely with colleagues across global engineering teams to deliver on our product roadmap, improve developer productivity, and ensure our platforms are secure, reliable, and easy to use.
What you will accomplish:- Advance eBay's Java development environment (Raptor.io) by crafting and improving Spring Boot-based frameworks that power thousands of internal applications and critical site-facing traffic.
- Increase developer efficiency and platform reliability by building, maintaining, and optimizing CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, Tekton) that enable fast, secure, and automated builds and deployments.
- Develop and implement AI-powered tooling and solutions that streamline platform engineering workflows, reduce operational toil, and elevate the developer experience.
- Improve release quality and predictability by coordinating cross-team release activities, managing dependencies, and aligning platform changes with the broader product roadmap.
- Strengthen eBay's container and infrastructure foundation by creating optimized Docker images, managing Kubernetes-based deployments, and ensuring environments (dev, staging, prod) are stable, observable, and performant.
- Enhance platform security and compliance by driving continuous image patching, vulnerability scanning, secure handling of sensitive data, and clear documentation and guides that enable developers, QA, and operations teams to use the platform safely and effectively.
What you will bring:- 3+ years of professional experience in Java development, including strong proficiency with Spring Boot and Maven in building and maintaining production-grade services or platforms.
- Hands-on experience developing, implementing, and fixing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins and Tekton.
- Solid working knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes, with experience building and managing production-ready images and deployments.
- Proficiency with Git-based version control and branching strategies, along with experience collaborating effectively in large, distributed codebases.
- A collaborative, customer-focused mentality with a desire to work hand in hand with multi-functional teams (e.g., developers, QA, operations, security) across geographies.
- Flexibility to collaborate across time zones as needed to support global platform initiatives.
