Full Job Description
Lead with heart and purpose on UVA Health's Acute Inpatient Oncology Unit-where clinical excellence meets transformative leadership. As Nurse Manager of this 28-bed, state-of-the-art unit in our South Tower, you'll champion a team that delivers high-acuity hematology, gynecologic, and neuro-oncology care, supported by breakthrough therapies and a collaborative, Magnet-recognized culture.

This Role Offers You the Opportunity To:
• Drive operational excellence by managing daily clinical and administrative functions for a high-performing team of RNs, PCAs, technicians, and clerical staff.
• Strategically oversee staffing, scheduling, and flex resource utilization based on patient flow and acuity.
• Lead with data: forecast and manage budgets, ensuring alignment with benchmarks such as Paid Hours Per Patient Day and WHPPD.
• Inspire a culture of quality through continuous improvement programs, patient experience initiatives, and evidence-based practice.
• Uphold compliance standards while advancing nursing practice through the UVA shared governance model.
• Recruit, develop, and retain talent through meaningful engagement, coaching, and professional development.
• Foster strong interdisciplinary partnerships with physicians, clinical leaders, and administrative counterparts to drive patient-centered outcomes.

Successful candidates would be able to demonstrate:
-5+ years of experience in Oncology Nursing in an inpatient setting
-Leadership experience in Oncology Nursing in an inpatient setting.
-ONCC/ONS Oncology

  • Manages and supports the day to day operations of assigned patient care area(s).
  • Supervises all nurses and support staff including but not limited to Registered Nurses Patient Care Assistants and Technicians Health Unit Coordinators and related clerical staff.
  • Oversees the preparation of schedules utilizing wage and flex staff as appropriate. Adjusts according to patient flow.
  • Accurately forecasts and manages budget for the unit and ensures that any expenditures are within the budget. Knowledge of related benchmarks such as Paid hour per patient day and Worked hour per patient day.
  • Develops programs which address continuous quality improvement system enhancement streamlined processes patience experience and overall nurse performance.
  • Ensures compliance with appropriate regulatory requirements specific to the unit supervised.
  • Ensures that the highest quality nursing care is provided to patients and their families.
  • Develops and manages partnerships with clinicians physicians and administrative counterparts to achieve common goals.
  • Promotes integration of multidisciplinary work groups. Manages recruitment performance team member engagement and retention activities of assigned staff.
  • Implement the UVA shared governance nursing model at the unit level ensuring shared decision making that affects nursing practice quality improvement professional development and research.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Preferred Requirements:
  • 2-3 years of Adult Oncology experience
  • ONS Certification
  • 2 years of management experience

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from accredited nursing program, Master's degree in related field within 5 years of hire.
Experience: At least 3 years of progressively more responsible experience as a registered nurse in a patient care environment required.

For Dialysis Nurse Manager: As required by job b e a full-time employee of the facility; have at least 12 months of experience in clinical nursing, and an additional 6 months of experience in providing nursing care to patients on maintenance dialysis.
Licensure: License to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia required. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. Valid Virginia Driver's license required for managers with responsibility operations in multiple locations. Must have applicable specialty certification at hire or within 3 years .

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

The pay range for this role is $110,697.60 - $147,680.00 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
