About the Role

The Clinical Nurse Educator provides educational leadership that supports excellence in nursing practice and aligns with MedStar Georgetown's mission, vision, values, and Magnet standards. This role is essential in advancing clinical competency, supporting certification, and integrating evidence-based practice throughout nursing teams.

Units
  • Pre operative and Discharge Unit
  • Phase I Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
  • Post Procedural PACU

These units are located on two floors immediately above and below one another. The units support 31 operating rooms and two procedural units. These units provide immediate postoperative care to inpatient and outpatient surgical patients The PACU Nurses care for adult and pediatric patients who have undergone a broad range of surgical procedures, with acuity ranging from Ambulatory to Critical Care. Surgical specialties include ENT, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, General Surgery and Transplant, as well as Urological, Vascular, Plastic, and Thoracic.

Schedule

Monday - Friday Days

Key responsibilities include
  • Serving as a mentor, coach, and role model for experienced and new to practice nursing staff.
  • Assessing staff learning needs and designing, implementing, and evaluating education programs and unit-based orientation.
  • Supporting certification and professional development, including specialty fellowship programs.
  • Leading and participating in performance improvement, quality initiatives, and nursing research.
  • Collaborating across interdisciplinary and academic partners to support clinical and educational objectives and enhance practice environments.
  • Promoting shared governance through active participation in nursing councils, committees, task forces, and system initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing required
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's degree in Nursing Education or other related field preferred
  • Active DC RN License and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required (AHA or American Red Cross).
  • Pre or Post Operative Clinical experience required. 5-7 years Pre or Postoperative Clinical experience preferred
  • 1-2 years 2 years in a university teaching hospital preferred
  • Clinical education experience preferred
  • Cert Nurse Educator - CNE Certification in Nursing Education or clinical area within 1 Year required
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Current D.C. licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse required
