Responsibilities

  • Set up, configure, document, and maintain Linux and Windows systems, network devices, and virtualization platforms
  • Perform network cabling, rack setup, and plan physical infrastructure
  • Configure and manage networking components like VLANs, routing, switching, and firewalls
  • Deploy and manage virtualization technologies including VMware, OpenStack, and KVM
  • Maintain and optimize lab storage systems
  • Conduct regular audits of configurations and inventory data
  • Create and maintain scripts to automate lab configuration and provisioning
  • Troubleshoot and resolve outages, hardware failures, and performance issues
  • Address Helpdesk tickets from lab users promptly and professionally
  • Collaborate with IT and Facilities teams on connectivity and infrastructure issues
  • Participate in the design and improvement of lab services and infrastructure

Full Job Description
Volt is immediately hiring a Lab Network Engineer in Seattle, WA.

As a Lab Network Engineer you will:
  • Set up, configure, document, and maintain Linux and Windows systems, network devices, and virtualization platforms in the lab.
  • Perform network cabling, rack setup, and physical infrastructure planning.
  • Configure and manage networking components, including VLANs, routing, switching, and firewall rules.
  • Deploy and manage virtualization technologies such as VMware, OpenStack, KVM, and XCP-ng.
  • Maintain and optimize storage systems used in lab environments.
  • Perform regular audits of configuration and inventory data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Create and maintain scripts and tools to automate lab configuration, provisioning, and usability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve lab and network outages, hardware failures, and system performance issues.
  • Address Helpdesk tickets from lab users in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with IT and Facilities teams to resolve connectivity, power, and cooling issues.
  • Participate in the design, monitoring, and improvement of lab services and infrastructure.
  • Ensure proper documentation of lab systems, configurations, and operational procedures.


This is a full-time, contract opportunity.

The ideal candidate will have:

Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • 5-7+ years of experience in enterprise network environments & Physical Lab Understanding
  • 3-5+ years of experience with virtualization platforms
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills
  • Ability to quickly learn and adopt new technologies


Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience with python or other scripting.


Pay Range: $45 - $60 per hour.
