Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:

The Merchant leads the merchandising and buying process for one of the largest areas within their Brand/Division. This role is responsible for planning and executing goals to achieve sales targets, markup, return rates, and profit (EBITDA). The Merchant oversees a team of Merchants and partners with various departments, including Inventory Planning for fulfillment, Creative Services for catalog/web creative, Sourcing for price goals and quality standards, Marketing to analyze customer needs and promote products, and E-Commerce to drive online KPIs. The Merchant also participates in company initiatives and interacts with senior management.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead product assortment and design strategy, ensuring delivery of a compelling assortment that meets or exceeds financial goals.
  • Oversee all aspects of seasonal assortment planning from initial selection through post-seasonal analysis.
  • Develop short- and long-term strategies to grow the current business.
  • Identify, develop, and implement new business strategies, initiatives, and product lines.
  • Collaborate with Inventory Planning to develop plans that leverage current inventory and support strategic growth and innovation.
  • Investigate and respond to catalog and web issues.
  • Partner with planners to manage all markdowns, promotions, cost changes, and retail adjustments.
  • Analyze the domestic market and provide insights to the Buyer for market analyses.
  • Review and approve catalog proofs for pricing, naming, and copy.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the brand's customer and aesthetic.
  • Demonstrate technical expertise, business acumen, and financial savvy.
  • Deliver results by influencing internal and external partners.
  • Negotiate effectively with market vendors.
  • Engage in product development, collaborating closely with design teams.
  • Strategically manage web promotions and offers while providing creative direction that aligns with the brand aesthetic.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS in related field and/or equivalent work experience
  • 3 years' experience in apparel, swimwear is a plus
  • 5 years' experience managing a high performing environment
  • Proven track record of driving profitable business expansion
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in product development, global sourcing
  • Ability to develop train, and lead
  • Expertise in product development, trend and branding
  • Strong analytical skills required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PLM, Adobe)
