Mechanical Engineering Leader

We9re looking for a Mechanical Engineering Leader to join our Vancouver office, helping establish and grow our mechanical engineering presence across British Columbia and Western Canada. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced engineer who combines technical excellence, client leadership, business development, and team-building capabilities. You will play a key role in expanding Arup9s presence in the Vancouver market while supporting multidisciplinary project delivery across Canada and North America.

The Opportunity
  • Provide leadership for mechanical engineering projects and multidisciplinary project teams, serving as Project Manager and, where appropriate, Project Director.
  • Lead complex building projects with a focus on healthcare, science and laboratory facilities, transportation, aviation, data centers, pharmaceutical, and other complex institutional developments.
  • Support the continued growth of Arup9s Vancouver office through client engagement, business development, and market expansion initiatives across British Columbia.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, collaborators, contractors, architects, and industry stakeholders.
  • Lead proposal development, participate in pursuits, and support contract negotiations to secure new work opportunities.
  • Monitor project financial performance, budgets, schedules, and risk management measures to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Mentor and develop mechanical engineering staff while fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, collaboration, and inclusion.
  • Represent Arup at industry events, professional associations, and client-facing engagements throughout the region.
  • Support strategic growth initiatives across Western Canada while collaborating with teams in Calgary, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and other North American offices.


Is this role right for you?
  • Bachelor9s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in British Columbia, or ability to obtain registration shortly after joining.
  • 15+ years of experience designing HVAC systems, including airside and hydronic systems, for complex building projects - or a demonstrably equivalent depth of experience on complex building projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading mechanical engineering teams and multidisciplinary projects on medium- to large-scale developments.
  • Extensive experience in one or more priority sectors including healthcare, science and laboratory facilities, data centers, transportation, aviation, pharmaceutical, or other complex institutional projects.
  • Strong project management experience with the ability to balance multiple priorities in a dynamic, client-focused environment.
  • Proven success in business development, client relationship management, proposal strategy, and winning new work.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, mentor, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Experience with BIM and digital delivery platforms including Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks, BIM 360, or similar tools.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Commercial acumen with experience managing project budgets, financial performance, contracts, and project risks.
  • Demonstrated passion for sustainable development and alignment with Arup9s values and mission.

Vancouver Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Vancouver is $195,000 to $215,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Vancouver will differ.
