About the role

Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for researching, planning, designing, and developing mechanical products and systems. This includes instruments, controls, engines, and machines used in energy production, transmission, and measurement.
This job profile is intended for early-career professionals who apply broad theoretical knowledge and require the ability to investigate and analyze problems. Solutions are typically discussed/verified with a more senior member.
This position operates within the Order Related Engineering (ORE) department and is responsible for comprehensive understanding project scope to determine the requirement for developing a Submittal Package. Submittal package includes mechanical design, General Arrangement (GA) drawings and the preparation of mechanical components specific to individual sales orders. The role involves compiling and coordinating the development of Submittal Packages in close collaboration with Motor Control Designers and the ORE Manager. Additionally, this position will manage the submittal approval process with customers, ensuring timely feedback and resolution. Upon approval, the position is accountable for generating fabrication drawings, creating part numbers within the ERP system, and releasing the finalized package to production. Furthermore, the position provides mechanical engineering expertise to Tendering by reviewing project specifications and offering recommendations.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review project scope and specifications and organize hand-off meetings as necessary to ensure alignment and clarity.
  • Design mechanical components, assemblies, and general arrangement drawings specific to sales orders using Autodesk Inventor and maintain associated files within the Autodesk Vault management system.
  • Create and manage submittal packages through the customer approval process, ensuring timely and accurate release.
  • Update and maintain sales order workflows within the Visual ERP system.
  • Review and verify mechanical drawings and bills of materials (BOMs) prepared by other team members within the ORE department to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Conduct mechanical specification reviews to support tendering activities, as assigned by the ORE Manager.
  • Provide mechanical engineering support to other departments as directed by the ORE Manager.
  • Assist Production and field service technicians by offering mechanical support during fabrication and product installation.
  • Perform additional duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Education & Experience:

Required: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with 2+ years of experience.

Desired: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and project management professional certification (PMP) with 2+ years of experience.

Skills:

Required:

CAD Experience in 3D modeling and drafting

ERP System Experience.

Ability to use technology and analysis tools (Excel, Outlook, web, databases).

Desired:

Autodesk Inventor

Knowledge of ASME Y 14.5M 2018 standards.

Decision Authority:

Accountability: Position is accountable for ensuring the accuracy and OTD of submittal package, fabrication drawings and Visual BOM updates. This position is also accountable to maintain compliance with company standards and its safety policies.

Responsibility: This position is responsible for making decisions related to mechanical design, drawing creation, BOM verification and co-ordination between different departments. Also responsible for managing the customer submittal approval process and supporting Operations.

Delegation: This position may delegate tasks such as Drawing checks and BOM verification to other team members within the ORE department, under the guidance of ORE Manager

Approval Process: This position is responsible for approving mechanical components and drawings before release to production. Participates in the customer approval process for Submittals.

Consensus: Required to participate in consensus decision-making during cross-functional meetings such as Tendering and Operations to ensure alignment.

Automated Decisions: Utilizes Visual ERP system and design tools such as AutoCAD, Vault Engineering Sizing Tools and Vault to support decision-making related, BOM creation and workflow updates.

  • Accuracy of submittal packages.
