Full Job Description
Manufacturing Engineer (Fixtures) CTSC Summary: Advanced Technology Systems Company (ATSC) is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer (Fixtures) to join our growing team in Gilbert, AZ. The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the design, development, integration, and sustainment of manufacturing test and assembly fixtures to support production and system-level builds. This role ensures fixtures are safe, reliable, repeatable, and fully aligned with production requirements, engineering specifications, and quality standards. The position also supports new product introduction (NPI), continuous improvement, and troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, and system workflows. Essential Responsibilities: • Design, develop, and maintain production test fixtures, assembly fixtures, alignment fixtures, and tooling required for manufacturing and integration activities. • Define mechanical and electrical fixture requirements, performance parameters, tolerances, and interface points in coordination with Systems, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering teams. • Develop detailed 3D CAD models, mechanical drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), wiring diagrams, schematics, and build documentation for all fixtures. • Lead prototyping, fabrication, assembly, and validation of new fixtures, partnering with machine shops, vendors, and inhouse technicians. • Support production line readiness by integrating fixtures into assembly workflows, workstations, and test benches. • Conduct verification and validation (V&V) of fixture functionality, ensuring accuracy, repeatability, and compliance with manufacturing standards. • Troubleshoot fixture issues, perform failure analysis, and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and throughput. • Collaborate with test engineering to define fixture functionality, test interfaces, electrical connections, automation needs, and data collection requirements. • Contribute to Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) efforts by providing fixture-related input early in the product development cycle. • Create and maintain documentation for fixture operation, calibration, preventive maintenance, and configuration control. • Support First Article Inspection (FAI) and production readiness reviews by supplying fixture drawings, validation results, and supporting evidence. • Work with production teams to train technicians on proper fixture use, safety considerations, and maintenance procedures. • Coordinate procurement, vendor communication, and material sourcing for fixture components and assemblies. • Drive continuous improvement activities to enhance manufacturability, reduce cycle time, and optimize production efficiency. Required Qualifications: • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or relevant field. • 5-10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, tooling/fixture design, or test fixture development. • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) for fixture design, modeling, and drawing generation. • Experience with mechanical fabrication methods including machining, sheet metal, additive manufacturing, and assembly. • Hands-on experience with electrical interfaces, wiring, connectors, sensors, test points, and instrumentation used in production fixtures. • Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and system domains. • Knowledge of GD&T, tolerancing, and mechanical fit-up principles. • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and interface control documents (ICDs). • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook. • Must be able to pass a detailed background investigation and meet criteria for a U.S. Government-issued security clearance. • Must be a U.S. citizen. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience supporting FAI, FAT, and production readiness events. • Experience with automated test fixtures, PLCs, data acquisition (DAQ), sensors, or embedded test controllers. • Exposure to production environments involving electromechanical systems, sensors, or surveillance equipment. • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or manufacturing process optimization techniques. • Experience coordinating with external fabrication partners and machine shops. Physical Demands & Work Environment: • Work is typically performed in an office, manufacturing, or laboratory environment. • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, bend, kneel, handle tools and equipment, climb stairs, talk, hear, and see. • Must have the ability to lift 25-50 pounds. • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
