Job Summary: Reporting to the Director - Teachingand Learning Centre, the Manager of the Student Learning Support (SLS) leads ateam, as well as collaborating with other units, that supports students intheir academic development.

Nature of work:
The successful candidate will lead the development and implementation of a comprehensivestrategy for student academic development and support. The incumbent will alsobe responsible for the design and implementation of programs and serviceswithin the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC), as well as campus-wide collaborationwith Faculties and other units.

Responsibilities/accountabilities:
  • Develops and implements operational plans for SLS, consistent with overall priorities and goals of the University and the Teaching and Learning Centre
  • Leads a staff of subject specialists, academic development facilitators, student staff, and peer tutors
  • Carries out ongoing performance development, coaching and mentoring
  • Works with the Director (TLC) to manage the SLS budget and develop budget submissions
  • Develops and implements new strategic initiatives for SLS, including assessment strategies, specialized tutoring, and academic development programs, including academic literacies and student remediation and transition
  • Design and implement evaluations of SLS programs and student needs to assess program effectiveness
  • Support and promote continuing professional development of SLS staff to ensure skills are relevant and current
  • Facilitates partnerships with student leaders, societies and clubs, and other student services to develop collaborative programs
  • Develop partnerships with Faculties, faculty/instructors, and student leaders/groups, as well as other learning related units to promote understanding of students needs and identification of relevant resources
  • Participate in University committees concerned with student success as identified by the Director, TLC

  • Proven leadership in program management and personnel development, with the demonstrated ability to mentor multi-functional teams, establish clear performance expectations, and integrate evidence-informed pedagogical frameworks to achieve institutional goals
  • Strong program management and analytical skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with effectively University personnel
  • Comprehensive understanding of student learning experiences, science of learning, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, and sound pedagogical principles
  • An understanding of evidence-informed best practices in teaching and the use of technology to enhance learning
  • Superior communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong commitment to student success and learner support
  • Working knowledge of instructional design theory, educational multimedia production, storyboarding, digital development, test development, graphic design, etc.
  • Use of modern educational multimedia to enhance student engagement in active and collaborative learning

Required Education:
  • Four-year degree required
  • Master's degree strongly preferred
  • Doctorate considered an asset
  • An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered

Required Experience:
  • Five to seven years of related experience, including people leadership, in a post-secondary environment, preferably a University-environment
  • Experience in program development and assessment/evaluation strategies; experienced in executing strategic priorities, particularly for student academic development and remediation
  • Experience working with university personnel, including but not limited to faculty/instructors, Deans, and other university administrators
  • Post-secondary teaching experience
