Manager, Software Engineering

Overview

We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join our MACS program within Core Payments in New York. This hands-on leadership role will lead a high-performing engineering team responsible for delivering scalable, secure, and reliable software solutions while driving engineering excellence and operational effectiveness.

Role
• Plan, design, and develop technical solutions that meet business requirements while adhering to Mastercard engineering standards and best practices.
• Provide strong people leadership and technical guidance, leading with a vision that prioritizes business value and engineering excellence.
• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team while fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
• Drive software architecture, design, development, testing, and operational excellence across the team.
• Partner closely with Product Managers, Architects, and Engineering Leaders to align on strategy, architecture, and delivery priorities.
• Act as Scrum Master to support successful delivery, remove blockers, and drive continuous improvement.
• Own complex technical issues, production incidents, and cross-team dependencies while ensuring timely resolution and root-cause analysis.
• Perform code reviews and promote secure coding, quality engineering, and development best practices.
• Foster a blameless postmortem culture focused on learning, reliability, and continuous improvement.
• Establish strong partnerships across teams and promote an enterprise mindset in decision-making and execution.

• Proven track record of delivering results and developing high-performing software engineering teams.
• Strong technical leader with the ability to communicate vision, roadmap, architecture direction, and delivery priorities to diverse stakeholders.
• Experience building scalable, reliable, maintainable, performant, and secure applications.
• Ability to translate business and user requirements into technical solutions, estimates, and execution plans.
• Strong full-stack development experience with technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Vue, Oracle, SQL Server, or similar technologies.
• Strong foundation in software architecture, software design, software development, testing, secure coding, code review, troubleshooting, and operational excellence. Experience coaching teams on engineering best practices and reducing technical debt.
• Experience managing software releases, production readiness, operational controls, and change management processes.
• Knowledge of data protection, security, and regulatory requirements, including PCI DSS and GDPR.
• Experience driving reliability, observability, automation, and operational excellence across the software development lifecycle.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks, CI/CD practices, and quality engineering methodologies.
• Strong communicator who can influence stakeholders, navigate ambiguity, drive change, and deliver results across teams.

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Mastercard benefits for full time (and certain part time) employees generally include: insurance (including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance); flexible spending account and health savings account; paid leaves (including 16 weeks of new parent leave and up to 20 days of bereavement leave); 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time, 25 days of vacation time and 5 personal days, pro-rated based on date of hire; 10 annual paid U.S. observed holidays; 401k with a best-in-class company match; deferred compensation for eligible roles; fitness reimbursement or on-site fitness facilities; eligibility for tuition reimbursement; and many more. Mastercard benefits for interns generally include: 56 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time; jury duty leave; and on-site fitness facilities in some locations.
