The role:

To drive the communications and strategy behind the Scotiabank Engineering Mindset culture re-alignment.

This is a hands-on role encompassing messaging via internal social media, drafting internal communications, reviewing communications produced by others and exploiting external social media where appropriate to create buzz around our journey towards Scotia becoming "the creators, guardians, and engineers of value and exceptional experiences for our clients."

The role is responsible for communicating the core values and axiomatic behaviors which underpin our daily activities, specifically as IT Professionals within the bank, and ensuring exact alignment with the congruent ScotiaBond core values and behaviors which form the cultural norms for the bank as a whole.

It needs to distil those values and behaviors which apply generally to Technology and specifically to an Engineering Mindset into an easily understandable format and communicate them in a culturally sensitive fashion throughout Technology at Scotiabank using all possible communications channels, including setting up and managing in person speaking / town hall style events for the Technology function.

The role will also set up and proactively promote a set of events: hackathons, speaking events aimed as giving Technology a better understanding of what is expected of them to make the change to the Engineering Mindset.

Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Plan and manage events for showcases, hackathons, town halls and speaker events internally within Scotia on topics surrounding the Engineering Mindset transformation. Book rooms, arrange material, liaise with in house AV team.


  • Produce limited multi-media artifacts for use on both internal and external social media. Includes filming, scripting, editing and postproduction.


  • Liaise with the communications functions, both centrally and across the CIO functions to ensure that messaging is consistent and timed to best amplify each other's message. Ensures that all communications comply with internal formats and rules around content and style.


  • Design and implements detailed campaigns and event sequences which are then rolled out to the wider enterprise to foster the shift to an Engineering Mindset. Consult with and engages third party resources to assist with this if needed.


  • Work hand in hand with HR to ensure messaging around career stream changes / cultural expectations / ways and methods of working is done in an efficient and effective way. Cross checks the consistency of messaging across the various teams.


  • Work closely with the CIO's to ensure that there are a plurality of voices heard. In particular ensure focus is given to equity deserving groups and their voices.


  • Monitor the external environment for speaking or prize-winning opportunities for Technology Staff at all levels. Identification of internal candidates, help with the preparation of submissions and / or scriptwriting for external presentations.


  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.


  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of your respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
