Summary:

The position supports the marketing and communications needs for the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine and is supervised by UNC Health Communications & Marketing.

The manager will support SOM-wide internal and external communications and marketing priorities, will collaborate with colleagues to share academic and research news across UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC Health platforms, will manage a team of communicators supporting SOM and UNC Health brand priorities, and more.

Job activities include developing compelling content in line with brand priorities, collaborating with SOM and UNC Health leaders on communications efforts, and ensuing efforts align with UNC Health system-wide and University-wide priorities. This position requires an advanced level of expertise in communications and marketing, with specialized knowledge in academia, health care and scientific research.

Description of Job Responsibilities:

1. Supports internal priorities via web postings, email messages, newsletters and more.

2. Supports external priorities via web postings, social media, advertising and more.

3. Supports leadership communications, including remarks, announcements, talking points, presentations and more.

4. Collaborates with design, video and photography colleagues to develop collateral supporting brand priorities.

5. Provides guidance on SOM-wide brand efforts and marketing and communications best practices across platforms.

6. Manages a team of communicators.

7. Assists with major event promotions.

8. Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills:

Experience in public relations, communications and marketing focused on academic, scientific or health-related priorities.

Strong customer service skills.

Ability to coordinate and collaborate across multiple teams effectively.

Proficiency with modern communications platforms to manage workflows and campaigns, as well as the ability to leverage AI and digital optimization tools.

Demonstrated experience in creating, directing, and managing content for various multi-media platforms, including website, digital, social media, print, newsletter, and email.

Outstanding interpersonal communication skills.

Knowledge of WordPress.

Excellent writing skills.

Ability to manage time and priorities with diverse responsibilities and multiple stakeholders.

• Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
• No licensure or certification required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
• Five (5) years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing or related field.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, knowledge of medical research concepts sufficient to enable communication with clinical and basic science faculty.
