Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mainframe SME to lead the mainframe code analysis and reverse engineering phase of large-scale modernization and transformation programs. The candidate will provide deep technical expertise across IBM Mainframe technologies, collaborate with customer and internal stakeholders, and drive the successful assessment, understanding, and documentation of legacy applications.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Governance

Lead the overall code analysis and reverse engineering workstream for mainframe modernization programs.

Define analysis strategies, deliverables, timelines, and governance processes.

Provide technical leadership to architects, analysts, and development teams.

Review project progress, risks, dependencies, and mitigation plans.

Ensure quality and completeness of application discovery and documentation.

Mainframe Code Analysis & Reverse Engineering

Analyze and reverse engineer complex legacy applications to identify business processes, application functionality, and technical dependencies.

Perform application inventory and portfolio assessment.

Identify program-to-program, batch, online, database, and external interface dependencies.

Derive business rules and functional workflows from legacy code.

Create application architecture diagrams, data flow diagrams, and system documentation.

Support automated and manual code discovery activities.

Technical Expertise
  • Provide SME guidance on IBM Mainframe technologies including:
  • COBOL
  • JCL
  • CICS
  • DB2
  • IMS DB/DC
  • VSAM
  • MQ Series
  • REXX
  • Easytrieve
  • CA7/Control-M Schedulers
  • Endevor/Changeman
  • Evaluate modernization, remediation, and migration approaches.
  • Support application decomposition and target-state architecture discussions.


Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with customer SMEs, business users, architects, and modernization teams.
  • Conduct technical workshops, requirement discussions, and knowledge transfer sessions.
  • Present findings, recommendations, and analysis reports to leadership stakeholders.
  • Act as the primary technical escalation point for mainframe-related issues.


Documentation & Reporting
  • Produce detailed analysis reports, dependency matrices, and application assessments.
  • Document business processes, application architecture, interfaces, and data models.
  • Prepare executive summaries and modernization recommendations.
  • Maintain traceability between business functions and legacy code components.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong expertise in IBM Mainframe technologies.
  • Extensive experience in COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, IMS, and VSAM.
  • Deep understanding of batch and online processing environments.

The base compensation range for this role in the posted location is: $120000 to $155800

Capgemini provides compensation range information in accordance with applicable national, state, provincial, and local pay transparency laws. The base compensation range listed for this position reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation Capgemini, in good faith, believes it may pay for the role at the time of this posting.
