About the team/role

We are looking for a motivated, solutions-oriented litigator to join our high-performing and collaborative Litigation and Compliance team. As Litigation & Employment Counsel, you'll drive litigation in state and federal court and also help advise the People team on employment matters. You'll partner cross-functionally to help Checkr manage risk and reach its business and fairness goals.

What you'll do
  • Manage/execute all aspects of litigation and other matters (e.g., subpoenas, demands)
    • Conduct factual investigation, case analysis, exposure analysis
    • Review pleadings and other litigation-related documents
    • Lead discovery process and fact gathering, including witness preparation
  • Work with outside counsel to implement nuanced and efficient litigation strategy
  • Provide compliance counseling to the operations teams to mitigate litigation risk
  • Help advise People/HR across the employment lifecycle, including leaves, accommodations, wage and hour, worker classification, and disputes
  • Build cross-functional relationships to strengthen partnerships across the Company to identify and implement product and process improvements
  • Develop an understanding of the Fair Credit Reporting Act and related state laws and how they apply to Checkr products and services

What you bring
  • JD degree and CA bar admission in good standing
  • 5+ years of substantive litigation experience, including employment matters
  • Experience with Fair Credit Reporting Act, criminal law, or international employment counseling is a plus
  • Interest and enthusiasm towards new technologies and leveraging AI
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently, with strong attention to detail, sound judgment, humility, and a good sense of humor
  • A pragmatic strategist who assesses risk in the context of the company's goals and communicates them clearly to business stakeholders

On-target Earnings OR Base Salary range (San Francisco, CA)

$188,000-$221,000 USD
