Legal Counsel, Peachtree City, Georgia

When you join our team as a Legal Counsel, you will provide practical, strategic and business-oriented legal advice to the organization's operations and corporate teams in multiple U.S. jurisdictions, primarily in the U.S. South and Pacific Northwest regions, with occasional travel to U.S. operating sites. The role is responsible for supporting a broad range of commercial, labor and employment, regulatory, governance, compliance and property matters, partnering closely with business leaders and legal team members to advance operational objectives while effectively managing legal risk, ensuring regulatory compliance, and protecting the organization's interests and reputation.

The successful candidate will be a pragmatic, resourceful and versatile lawyer with strong commercial judgment, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to deliver clear, practical advice in a driven operational environment.

The Legal Counsel reports into the General Counsel and is a key member of a small and effective team that includes two other regional lawyers and a corporate paralegal/property manager.

What You'll Do

Commercial Contracting

• Draft, review, negotiate, and interpret contracts and other legal documents, including operations, capital projects, procurement, sales, and service provider agreements.

• Provide guidance on regulatory requirements, compliance and ethical business conduct.

Employment and Labor

• Advise on employee relations, investigations, disciplinary matters including terminations, accommodation issues, wage and hour compliance, leaves of absence, and workforce reductions.
• Review employment agreements and workplace policies.

Litigation and Dispute Management

• Manage litigation and claims through outside counsel, including oversight of strategy, budgets, accruals, reporting and settlement recommendations.

Property

• Provide legal advice on real property matters, including acquisitions, dispositions, land use, access agreements, rights-of-way, title issues and property tax appeals.
• Support corporate and divisional leaders in evaluating and managing property-related risks and opportunities, and strategies to optimize property tax outcomes.

Regulatory and Compliance

• Advise on environmental, health and safety, privacy, transportation, manufacturing and other operational regulatory matters, in partnership with internal subject matter experts and external counsel as needed.
• Conduct compliance training and awareness initiatives.
• Support investigations as needed.

Strategic Business Initiatives

• Support and provide legal advice on new initiatives, transactions, financings, and other strategic projects.

What You Offer

• Law degree (LL.B. or J.D.).
• Member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia. Membership of a law society of another U.S. State and willingness to transition to Georgia, will also be considered.
• 4+ years of relevant post-call experience, preferably including in-house and private practice experience.
• Demonstrated experience in commercial contracting and employment law.
• Experience in the lumber industry or other manufacturing environments will be considered an asset.
• Demonstrated interest in leveraging legal technology, AI-enabled tools and process improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and efficiency.
• Effectively balance business needs and priorities against legal risks, to provide timely, practical legal advice and counsel.
• Effective negotiation and drafting skills, able to write in clear, concise and plain language.
• Ability to communicate complex legal issues in clear, practical terms.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-management skills.
• Sound ethics and professional integrity.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to work independently, with supervision and support where needed, and collaboratively as a key member of the legal team.
