Position Summary

The Lead Product Owner provides dedicated Digital support for the Middle Office, serving as the primary link between business priorities and technology delivery. This role owns the Middle Office digital product vision, roadmap, intake, and backlog across interconnected risk oversight, performance measurement, data, analytics, workflow, and automation needs. The position partners closely with Middle Office leaders, Digital teams, data management, architecture, and Commercial stakeholders to translate complex business needs into governed, scalable solutions, align competing priorities, clarify ownership, and deliver measurable business value while strengthening the long-term operating model.
Key Responsibilities
• Responsible for continuous delivery of value to the customer through compelling and empowering customer experiences, accountable for a complex/ critical product, or multiple related products within a product family / portfolio.
• Leads development of an integrated Middle Office digital roadmap and prioritizes releases across risk oversight, performance measurement, data topology, analytics, workflow, and automation capabilities, aligning delivery with business strategy, regulatory and governance needs, and measurable value.
• Collaborates closely with Agile teams, stakeholders, and business representatives to proactively identify and address challenges that arise during product development, ensuring successful execution of the product strategy.
• Establishes a clear engagement model across Middle Office, Digital, Commercial technology, data management, architecture, analytics, and delivery teams; drives decisions on intake, ownership, prioritization, dependencies, user acceptance testing, process change, and technology direction.
• Serves as the single product-intake and prioritization lead for Middle Office technology needs, organizing stakeholder priorities and balancing near-term operational needs, foundational data work, and strategic capabilities against resources, funding, risk, and enterprise standards.
• Prioritizes product backlog, processes and release plan for multiple features for a complex or higher profile product, and plans the coordination of interdependencies with scrum team, across other lines of business.
• Works with cross functional teams to ensure alignment with similar goals and objectives and cross-team prioritization. Carries out ongoing analysis of product capability themes in order to support product direction.
• Delivers product innovation, definition, deliverables planning (roadmap), and design of entirely new products to deliver against team and company goals.
• Interprets and communicates product development builds on cross-departmental knowledge and puts the customer at the heart of all product changes.
• Identifies common client pain points and opportunities and defines right solutions to address; captures stakeholder concerns and implements refinements; serves as the voice of the client, bringing that perspective back to internal stakeholders; serves as an Agile product development champion across department and/or company.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, related field or equivalent work experience;
  • Product Owner certification required
  • Product Management preferred.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience required
  • Experience in the oil and gas, refining, midstream, commodity trading, or energy industry, with an understanding of physical and financial commodity transactions and value-chain operations, preferred.
  • Experience supporting Middle Office, commercial risk, or performance-measurement capabilities, including operational P&L, mark-to-market valuation, P&L attribution, priced-to-GAAP reconciliation, exposure monitoring, or risk-limit controls, preferred.
  • Experience documenting and improving business processes, data flows, business rules, controls, ownership, and system interactions across Commercial, Middle Office, Finance, Accounting, Risk, and Digital teams.
  • Experience with energy trading and risk management systems, risk data platforms, enterprise resource planning systems, market-data feeds, data integration, reporting, analytics, data lineage, and data governance is preferred.
  • Experience leading requirements definition, user acceptance testing, data and business-rule validation, control evidence, issue resolution, and implementation readiness for complex, cross-functional technology solutions.
