As an IBM i Infrastructure & Platform Engineer within our Specialized Midrange Platforms organization, you will play a key role in delivering secure, resilient, highly available, and modern IBM i services that support critical business applications across the enterprise. We are seeking a Senior IBM i Infrastructure & Platform Engineer to join our Specialized Midrange Platforms organization. This role is responsible for engineering, supporting, modernizing, and automating mission-critical IBM i infrastructure supporting key business applications. The successful candidate will possess deep expertise in IBM i, Power Systems, High Availability, Disaster Recovery, security, and platform operations while driving innovation through automation, resiliency engineering, and modern platform practices.

Job Responsibilities

• Engineer, administer, support, and continuously improve enterprise IBM i infrastructure platforms.
• Design and implement highly available and resilient solutions using PowerHA, Copy Services Toolkit, and replication technologies.
• Manage IBM Power Systems environments including HMC, storage, networking, virtualization, and operating system lifecycle management.
• Drive automation initiatives that improve operational efficiency, reduce risk, and eliminate repetitive manual processes.
• Partner with application development teams to support deployment, modernization, and operational readiness activities.
• Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex platform, application, infrastructure, and performance-related issues.
• Participate in incident management, problem management, root cause analysis, and continuous service improvement initiatives.
• Support resiliency, disaster recovery, security, compliance, and audit requirements across the IBM i ecosystem.
• Contribute to platform engineering strategies focused on automation, observability, AI-assisted operations, and modernization.
• Participate in on-call support rotations and critical incident response activities as required.

Required Qualifications, capabilities and skills

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of hands-on IBM i (iSeries / AS400) engineering and infrastructure support experience.
• Extensive knowledge of IBM i operating systems, architecture, administration, installation, configuration, PTF maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
• Deep understanding of IBM i integrated infrastructure architecture including storage, networking, database, security, and application components.
• Advanced experience administering IBM Power Systems and Hardware Management Consoles (HMC).
• Experience working with IBM and external vendors to troubleshoot infrastructure, software, operating system, and hardware-related issues.
• Extensive knowledge of PowerHA and Copy Services Toolkit (CST) for IBM i.
• Strong experience with IBM i replication technologies, including Rocket iCluster or equivalent products.
• Expertise in image catalog management, operating system deployment, PTF management, and system maintenance automation.
• Working knowledge of Incident, Problem, Change, and Risk Management processes.
• Ability to lead troubleshooting activities, drive root cause analysis, conduct blameless post-mortems, and implement permanent corrective actions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to lead technical discussions and bridge calls involving multiple stakeholders.
• Advanced experience with HelpSystems products, including Robot Scheduler, Robot Network, and Robot Console.
• Advanced knowledge of IBM Backup and Recovery Media Services (BRMS).
• Strong understanding of IBM i security, auditing, user profile management, authorization lists, object security, and compliance controls.
• Experience supporting IBM MQ administration, configuration, troubleshooting, and integration within IBM i environments.
• Knowledge of Independent Auxiliary Storage Pools (IASPs) and associated management practices.
• Strong understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching, subnetting, SSL, SSH, and secure communications.
• Experience with scripting and automation technologies such as CL, RPG, Python, Java, or equivalent.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across large, geographically distributed teams.
• Must be available to participate in on-call support and critical incident response activities, including evenings and weekends as required.

Preferred Qualifications, Requirements and Skills

• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, and modern engineering practices utilizing tools such as Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins, GitHub, or equivalent platforms.
• Exposure to Agile and Scrum development methodologies and tools such as Jira and Confluence.
• Advanced knowledge of IBM i performance management, tuning, system optimization, workload capping, and capacity planning.
• Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC), platform automation, and orchestration solutions using Ansible or similar technologies.
• Knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, observability platforms, and engineering excellence practices.
• Experience with IBM i modernization initiatives including APIs, integration services, cloud connectivity, and hybrid infrastructure architectures.
• Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence (AI), Generative AI, Machine Learning (ML), and intelligent automation technologies.
• Experience leveraging AI-assisted operations, Copilot technologies, intelligent monitoring, predictive analytics, or automation solutions to improve platform management, operational efficiency, engineering productivity, and incident response.
• Ability to identify opportunities for automation and use AI-driven capabilities to reduce operational risk, improve service reliability, and accelerate platform modernization.
• Knowledge of enterprise analytics, dashboarding, telemetry, and data-driven operational decision making.
