Job Description - UKG Functional Consultant - AMS

Role: UKG Functional Consultant

Engagement: Application Management Services (AMS)

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced UKG Functional Consultant with 8+ years of hands-on experience in UKG Workforce Management solutions to support an enterprise AMS engagement.

The consultant will play a key role across transition, knowledge acquisition, stabilization, steady-state support, and continuous improvement. The role requires strong UKG functional expertise, production support experience, business process understanding, and the ability to collaborate effectively with business, HR, Payroll, IT, and technical teams.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring stable application operations, resolving complex functional issues, supporting business-critical workforce and payroll processes, delivering enhancements, and proactively identifying opportunities for service and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Transition & Knowledge Acquisition
  • Participate actively in transition and knowledge transfer sessions with incumbent teams, business SMEs, and application owners.
  • Understand the existing UKG landscape, business processes, configurations, interfaces, integrations, customizations, and dependencies.
  • Review and validate SOPs, runbooks, knowledge articles, configuration documentation, known-error databases, and operational procedures.
  • Perform reverse knowledge transfer and demonstrate readiness for independent application support.
  • Identify knowledge gaps, operational risks, dependencies, and documentation gaps during transition.
  • Support service readiness and transition-to-steady-state activities.

Steady-State Functional Support
  • Provide L2/L3 functional support for UKG Workforce Management applications.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve functional incidents and service requests within agreed SLAs.
  • Support business-critical processes related to timekeeping, scheduling, attendance, accruals, leave, and payroll.
  • Investigate complex production issues and collaborate with technical teams and UKG/vendor support where required.
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring and high-impact incidents and recommend permanent corrective actions.
  • Support incident, problem, change, release, and knowledge management processes.
  • Maintain accurate ticket updates and ensure timely communication with business stakeholders.

UKG Functional Expertise

Strong hands-on experience in relevant UKG modules and capabilities, including:
  • Time & Attendance / Timekeeping
  • Scheduling / Advanced Scheduling
  • Accruals
  • Leave and Absence Management
  • Attendance
  • Pay Rules and Work Rules
  • Labor Levels and Labor Tracking
  • Holiday and Overtime Rules
  • Employee and Organizational Setup
  • Timecard and Payroll Processing
  • Workforce Management business processes

Experience with UKG Pro Workforce Management (UKG Dimensions) and/or UKG Workforce Central is highly desirable.

Configuration & Enhancements
  • Analyze business requirements and translate them into UKG functional solutions.
  • Configure and maintain pay rules, work rules, accrual policies, schedules, attendance rules, and related functional components.
  • Perform impact analysis for configuration changes and enhancements.
  • Prepare functional specifications and configuration documentation.
  • Coordinate with technical teams for integrations and technically dependent enhancements.
  • Support minor enhancements and continuous improvement initiatives through the complete change lifecycle.

Testing & Release Support
  • Prepare functional test scenarios and test cases.
  • Perform functional, regression, integration, and post-deployment validation.
  • Support SIT and UAT and coordinate defect resolution.
  • Validate production changes following releases and deployments.
  • Support UKG patches, releases, upgrades, and platform changes from a functional perspective.

Payroll & Business-Critical Support
  • Support payroll-critical UKG processes, including timecard validation, approvals, pay-rule processing, accruals, and payroll interfaces.
  • Investigate and resolve timekeeping and payroll-impacting issues within critical timelines.
  • Coordinate with HR, Payroll, Operations, and technical teams during business-critical processing windows.

Continuous Improvement
  • Analyze incident trends and identify opportunities to reduce recurring issues.
  • Recommend configuration, process, and operational improvements.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, ticket reduction, shift-left, and self-service.
  • Improve knowledge articles, SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and support documentation.
  • Contribute to service improvement plans and operational excellence initiatives.

Governance & Stakeholder Management
  • Participate in operational reviews and service governance meetings.
  • Provide clear updates on incidents, problems, changes, risks, and enhancements.
  • Work closely with business users, HR, Payroll, IT teams, and other application support teams.
  • Ensure adherence to agreed SLA/KPI and service management processes.

Required Skills & Experience
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in UKG/Kronos Workforce Management.


Preferred Skills
  • UKG certification(s).
  • Experience with UKG Pro Workforce Management / UKG Dimensions.
  • Experience with UKG Workforce Central.
  • Experience supporting global or large-scale UKG environments.
  • ITIL certification.
  • Experience with ServiceNow or similar ITSM platforms.
  • Exposure to Agile delivery methodologies.
  • Strong functional expertise in UKG Workforce Management business processes.
  • Proven experience in enterprise production support / AMS engagements.
  • Hands-on experience in UKG configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of Time & Attendance, Scheduling, Accruals, and Payroll-related processes.
  • Experience handling P1/P2 and other business-critical production incidents.
  • Good understanding of ITIL processes, including Incident, Problem, Change, Release, and Knowledge Management.
  • Strong analytical and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder and customer management capabilities.


Additional Requirements
  • Must be flexible to support business-critical activities outside regular business hours when required.
  • Flexibility is required for payroll-critical processing, financial close cycles, production deployments, major incidents, system upgrades, releases, and other critical business events.
  • May be required to participate in planned weekend or extended-hours support based on business needs.
