Position Summary: Individual is responsible for day-to-day execution of all (OFC, GHQ, and Corporate) lab activities and ensuring the delivery of services as required to meet agreed upon objectives. Ensures proper use of all Swagelok personnel systems and adherence to all regulatory and safety requirements placed on the plant and Lab.
Provides strategic direction for the engineering product test labs, and corporate lab infrastructure based on corporate initiatives and future needs of stakeholders. Works to continuously improve the effectiveness of the labs through such efforts as increased use of data acquisition and control, automation and standard work. Interacts with multiple sites and levels of leadership while devising new approaches to lab services and related problems encountered in daily lab operations. Champions safety within the lab and through the organization.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: - Communicate lab project status and performance to stakeholders, including upper level management. Provide useful metrics to measure performance and progress toward measurable goals.
- Manage and develop lab resources (facility, equipment and associates)
- Drive continuous improvement and efficiency improvements in lab services striving to bring the labs to World Class status.
- Develop the skills of technicians in-line with current and future lab service needs.
- Manage lab budgets and identifies opportunities for cost reduction.
- Identify, justify, and budget for capital improvements.
- Assist with strategic planning for functional area, establish objectives and define and prioritize key projects to support the plan.
- Communicate on a routine basis lab priorities and priority changes to stakeholders.
- Collaborate and communicate with key internal customers including market specialists, SMEs, business development managers, engineering managers and department co-workers.
- As a leader, you are expected to know, enforce, and appropriately escalate all Swagelok associate policies.
Scope :
- -Minimal travel between plants in Northeast Ohio
- -May require some communication with Swagelok Ltd (UK)
Approximate # of direct reports (if applicable) - 10-20
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: Required: - 5-10 years of experience in a technical field
- Knowledge of the use of advanced mechanical and fluids lab testing techniques and protocols, including the modification and extension of test techniques and practices
- Recognized as competent and comfortable leading and taking direction in an environment of continuous change
- Proven abilities in leadership and management, including evaluating, encouraging, motivating, disciplining and awarding others
- Applies experience and knowledge at an organization level
- Demonstrates the ability to complete major and complex projects on time and budget
- Manages multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Advanced problem solving and significant decision making abilities
- Strong project management/product development skills
- Excellent oral and written communication
- Excellent computer and typical office software skills
Preferred: - BS degree in Engineering discipline and appropriate continuous education, or equivalent skills and experience
- Previous experience managing a large test lab
- Applied knowledge of data acquisition and automation
