Job Summary
The Java/Data Engineer will serve as a seasoned member of an agile data platforms team, designing and delivering trusted data collection, storage, access, and analytics solutions in a secure, stable, and scalable manner. The role will develop, test, and maintain critical data pipelines and architectures across multiple technical areas while applying expertise across the software development lifecycle. The engineer will collaborate with stakeholders, support data governance and quality, innovate data management and transformation approaches, and contribute to a culture of experimentation, continuous improvement, diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.
Key Responsibilities
• Support reviews of controls to ensure sufficient protection of enterprise data.
• Advise on and implement custom configuration changes in tools to generate products based on business or customer requirements.
• Update logical and physical data models based on new use cases.
• Develop innovative approaches for managing, transforming, and validating data.
• Apply quality assurance best practices across all work products.
• Develop and maintain data pipelines and architectures across the data lifecycle.
• Apply full-stack development capabilities using Angular with Java or Python.
• Use SQL extensively for data analysis, including joins and aggregations.
• Work with NoSQL databases and understand their appropriate use cases.
• Apply knowledge of application, data, and infrastructure architecture disciplines.
• Leverage Big Data technologies such as Spark, Impala, Hive, Redshift, and Kafka.
• Perform statistical data analysis and determine appropriate tools and data patterns for analysis.
• Collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Collaborate continuously with stakeholders and contribute to an agile team culture focused on learning and improvement.
Required Qualifications
• Formal training or certification in data engineering disciplines with 3+ years of applied experience.
• Experience across the data lifecycle.
• Full-stack development experience with Angular and Java or Python.
• Advanced SQL skills, including joins and aggregations.
• Working knowledge of NoSQL database platforms and experience writing efficient SQL queries.
• Strong understanding of application, data, and infrastructure architecture disciplines.
• Solid experience with Big Data technologies such as Spark, Impala, Hive, Redshift, and Kafka.
• Strong Java and Python development skills.
• Significant experience with statistical data analysis and the ability to identify appropriate tools and data patterns.
• Experience customizing tools to generate business or customer-facing products.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate large amounts of information accurately.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with data analytics and data management processes on AWS.
• Experience in Financial Services and Commercial and Investment Banking.
• Familiarity with DynamoDB and/or Cassandra.
