Summary
The IT Systems Administrator works closely with the CIO and DBA/DevOps to ensure the reliability, security, and continuous improvement of the company"s IT platforms and services. This role owns day-to-day IT operations and serves as the primary point of contact for end-user support, balancing hands-on assistance with operational ownership and longer-term improvement initiatives.
This position requires comfort operating in a generalist, hands-on environment where responsibilities are not siloed and may range from helpdesk support to infrastructure planning. The role is a key contributor to the organization"s long-term technology continuity and is designed to grow in scope as responsibilities transition over time.
This role is best suited for someone who enjoys broad responsibility and takes pride in being a trusted, go-to resource for both users and leadership.
Core Responsibilities (Owned Immediately)
* Serve as the primary helpdesk contact, providing direct support for end-user issues across hardware, software, and collaboration platforms.
* Own the administration, reliability, and lifecycle management of server, network, cloud, and endpoint environments.
* Balance reactive user support needs with proactive operational and technical improvement.
* Ensure security best practices through patching, access controls, monitoring, and regular review of configurations.
* Maintain and test disaster recovery, backup, and business continuity plans.
* Lead or significantly contribute to IT projects involving infrastructure upgrades, cloud services, and security initiatives.
* Partner with internal stakeholders to translate business needs into practical, supportable technology solutions.
* Maintain accurate and current system documentation, diagrams, and procedures.
Transitional & Growth Responsibilities (Developed Over Time)
* Increase ownership of vendor relationships, licensing, renewals, and service agreements.
* Participate in IT budgeting, forecasting, and roadmap planning.
* Assist with evaluation and selection of new platforms, tools, and standards.
* Support leadership decision-making by providing operational insight, risk assessments, and trade-off analysis.
* Crosstrain on selected CIO-level responsibilities to ensure knowledge continuity and operational resilience.

Job Requirements

Experience & Background
Required:
* Preferred 8?12+ years of progressive IT experience.
* Networking (LAN, WAN, VLAN) firewalls, VPN.
* Experience with end user support and ownership of systems reliability, security, and operational outcomes.
* Hands-on experience administering Microsoft Windows and Linux Server and Desktop environments, Azure, and Microsoft 365.
* Experience with Active Directory (on prem and Azure)
* Experience with virtualization/hyper-converged platforms.
Preferred:
* SharePoint administration or governance.
* Familiarity with backup software/services procedures, processes and testing.
* Exposure to phone systems and collaboration platforms (Teams, Zoom, Verizon, etc.).
* Familiarity with AEC or professional services environments and software (Autodesk, Bluebeam, etc.).
* Experience supporting IT audits, security reviews, or compliance initiatives, licensing, etc.
Skills & Competencies
* Strong troubleshooting skills across end-user systems, servers, cloud platforms, and networking.
* Comfort operating as a jack-of-all-trades in a small to mid-sized IT organization.
* Ability to switch effectively between user support, operational work, and longer-term initiatives.
* Pragmatic mindset with a focus on reliable, maintainable solutions appropriate for the organization"s size.
