The salary for this position is: $8,867.00 - $11,663.00 Monthly.

Thurston County is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of IT Supervisor within the Information Technology Department. This position is the leader for a nine-member Network Team. The IT Network Supervisor plans, organizes and manages the technical installation, maintenance, enhancement and operation of the County's local and wide area networks. The Network Team is responsible for infrastructure support, server management, security and telecommunication support for the offices and departments that make up county government. The incumbent understands customer business needs from the perspective of a senior businessperson and is conversant in the customer's business language.

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Manages assigned operations to achieve goals within budgeted funds and available personnel; plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments, reviews progress, directs changes in priorities and schedules as needed to assure work is performed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Participating in planning department training and employee development efforts. Recruiting and recommending selection of staff, developing procedures and performance standards, providing training, monitoring progress and evaluating employee performance. Working with manager and Human Resources to address employee and labor relations issues and concerns.
  • Preparing and justifying budget for assigned operations based on resource requirements, cost estimates, division objectives and departmental goals. Analyzing the cost/benefit of software updates and/or hardware changes and the impacts on other software and equipment; recommending appropriate action to assure cost- effective, efficient and continued computer services. Preparing and presenting information to management, IT steering committee, and/or other audiences. May develop and or manage the IT training program for County wide delivery.
  • Resolving inquiries, problems, complaints, or emergencies affecting availability or quality of services.
  • Responding to sensitive, technical, or complex inquiries or service complaints. Recommending and monitoring standards for hardware and software. Recommending future directions or new projects. Managing assigned areas for system security, access, including internal and external access, and recovery standards and procedures.
  • Planning, coordinating, and overseeing the installation and upgrade of hardware, software, and data-communication systems, including complex, high-impact infrastructure and architecture initiatives.
  • Providing technical advice to Information Technology staff and other departments on systems, software, hardware, and data communication. Interfacing with third party technical support personnel and support vendors.
  • Planning, coordinating, and overseeing large-scale infrastructure installations and relocations, including data center-level builds, migrations, and facility moves; ensuring readiness of network, power, cooling, physical security, and communication systems, and directing staff, vendors, and contractors to complete work efficiently, safely, and with minimal service disruption.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Work Environment -Work is performed primarily in an office environment in Olympia, Washington. Employee may sit for long periods of time at a computer screen, attending meetings, etc. Physical exertion is required for lifting, usually not exceeding 50 lbs. A hybrid work schedule may be possible after completion of probationary period.
  • Schedule - Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., or similar. During emergencies or special projects, the incumbent may be required to work an irregular and changing schedule, which may include working extended hours to correct technical issues, attending early morning or evening meetings, working weekends and holidays, and/or be available by phone to answer questions or be called in.
  • Travel Requirements - Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings or trainings. Provides on-site support to several county buildings, including transporting equipment.
  • Customer Interactions - Daily interactions via phone, in-person, and video with Thurston County staff.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information, business administration, GIS or related field and five (5) years of progressive responsibility with at least two (2) years of the five in a supervisory capacity. Additional experience may substitute for up to two (2) years of education.
  • Thorough knowledge of programming languages, database products, and integration techniques on multiple computing platforms.
  • Current Washington State Driver's License or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation.
  • Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a security background investigation.
