Full Job Description
NYCERS seeks a forward- and strategic-thinking Senior Cloud Engineer to provide senior-level expertise in the design, implementation, administration, optimization, and support of enterprise Azure and hybrid cloud infrastructure, incorporating Microsoft Active Directory/Entra and all of its components. The position requires strong experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure modernization, and enterprise IT environments, with the ability to work independently and provide technical leadership. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable in both server and networking engineering and administration.
Key Responsibilities
-The engineer will design and may be asked to implement and maintain enterprise cloud architecture and networking, including Azure virtual networks, subnets, routing, DNS/DHCP, security controls, load balancing, VPN/ExpressRoute, and connectivity between Azure, other cloud platforms, and on-premises data centers. They may also need to be familiar with on-prem Cisco Meraki wireless networks and hardware such as Cisco routers and switches, HSRP, EIGRP and BGP Routing protocols. The engineer will collaborate with network, security, application, and infrastructure teams to ensure reliable, secure, and scalable cloud connectivity.
-The engineer will lead and support cloud migration and modernization initiatives, assessing legacy applications, servers, VMware/hypervisor workloads, and infrastructure and determining whether workloads should be rehosted, replatformed, refactored, replaced with SaaS/PaaS solutions, or retired. The goal is to reduce technical debt, improve operational performance and efficiency, and transition legacy technologies to modern cloud services - effectively eliminating the need for any on-premise data centers.
-The engineer will design and maintain High Availability (HA), Business Continuity Planning (BCP), and Disaster Recovery (DR) IT solutions. Responsibilities include developing recovery strategies, establishing recovery requirements, implementing redundancy, maintaining backup and recovery capabilities, and conducting failover and recovery testing to minimize downtime and data loss.
-The engineer will manage and optimize cloud infrastructure performance, capacity, reliability, and cost. This includes monitoring compute, storage, networking, and application resources; establishing performance baselines; troubleshooting bottlenecks; right-sizing resources; and implementing improvements to maximize security, scalability, availability and operational efficiency. They will be required to provide documentation and mentoring to IT staff. The engineer will provide technical leadership, troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues, perform root-cause analysis, and coordinate with vendors when needed.
-The engineer will establish and maintain cloud monitoring, automation, security, governance, and operational standards. This includes Azure monitoring and logging, infrastructure-as-code, architecture documentation, and compliance with enterprise security and governance requirements.
-The engineer may be asked to leverage AI and intelligent automation within the Azure ecosystem to improve infrastructure engineering and operations. This includes using Azure Copilot, Azure Monitor AI capabilities, and other AI services to assist with infrastructure analysis, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, anomaly detection, capacity and cost optimization, migration planning, network analysis, and operational automation. The engineer will identify opportunities to safely incorporate AI into infrastructure management while maintaining appropriate security, governance, human oversight, and change controls.
-The technician will be required to work with minimal supervision and in a collaborative environment with other IT and Information Security staff, and will be required to work overtime upon request.
