Overview

Fred Hutch is seeking an IT Business Analyst III to support an enterprise-wide specimen data management system for the advancement of translational research initiatives by enabling the effective management, integration, and utilization of research, clinical, and biospecimen data within enterprise platform. This role is responsible for leading complex data migration, transformation, and application support efforts that improve data standardization, reduce redundant processes, and enhance the accessibility and downstream value of specimen-associated data to accelerate research discoveries in areas such as cancer and infectious diseases.

 

The position requires strong technical expertise in data management, application development, and process improvement, along with the ability to collaborate with researchers, business stakeholders, end users, and technical teams throughout all phases of project delivery, including assessment, design, development, testing, training, implementation, and ongoing support. This role is responsible for frequently taking the formal or informal lead on project planning tasks, establishing rigorous project documentation, and working on assigned tasks as designated by Fred Hutch team members.

 

This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely.

Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end data migration of research, clinical, and biospecimen data from legacy systems into enterprise specimen management platforms, ensuring accurate data conversion, standardization, and integrity.
  • Design, develop, and optimize SQL Server migration solutions, including reusable parsing logic, data integration workflows, transformation processes, validation scripts, and migration utilities to support efficient, high-quality data migration.
  • Support clinical data efforts by assisting clinical staff with the standardization of queries and the use of appropriate coding methods to efficiently access and retrieve data from available databases
  • Perform data profiling, cleansing, mapping, reconciliation, and pre-/post-migration validation to identify and resolve data quality issues, including duplicate records, missing data, mapping discrepancies, and integrity violations.
  • Develop Python automation and API integrations to streamline business processes, improve regulatory compliance, and reduce manual effort.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues involving SQL Server data.bases, application integrations, migrated data, and enterprise specimen management systems.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, research teams, IT staff, and vendors to integrate 3rd party tools with the enterprise system.
  • Participate in the design, development, testing, implementation, configuration, maintenance, and documentation of application enhancements, system upgrades, reports, interfaces, and business processes.
  • Manage technical Help Desk tickets received that are related to supporting the application, including support during system outages.
  • Contribute to project planning by providing effort estimates, managing issue resolution, administering application security, and following established change management and application support procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or other related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of IT business analysis experience managing Enterprise applications
  • Experience with application development lifecycle methodology as well as IT analysis mythologies such as process flow definition, data flow diagramming etc.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with specimen management, laboratory information management systems (LIMS), biobanking, or clinical research platforms.
  • Experience migrating research, clinical, laboratory, or biospecimen data between enterprise applications.
  • Proficiency in Python for automation, scripting, and REST API integration.
  • Familiarity with healthcare or clinical research data standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience collaborating across business, research, and technical teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality solutions within project timelines.
  • Experience creating technical documentation, conducting User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and providing end-user training and knowledge transfer.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $97,822 to $146,682, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
